An ex- combatant applauds the NDDRC for giving him a new lease on life:
On Thursday 3rd September 2026, the National Coordinator of the NDDRC, H.E. Francis Fai Yengo was all smiles as he received one of his repentant ex-fighters from the DDR Centre in Buea. Clovis has just bagged a First Degree and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Logistics and Transport Management at the Yaounde International Business School (YIBS).

Last month, the National Coordinator also received a young lady from the DDR Centre in Bamenda who graduated in flying colours from the National School of Local Administration (NASLA) in Buea. The two young graduates have been gainfully employed and reintegrated into civilian life. Many other young men and women in the North West and South West Regions who harkened to President Paul Biya’s peace appeals, laid down their arms, and joined the DDR Centres are equally being given the opportunities to better their lives by attending several institutions of learning around the country.

DDR staff in Buea learn more skills in child protection

The DDR process is upholding child protection in the Centres:

The three Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR ) Centres in Cameroon counts a total of one thousand, one hundred and seventy nine (1.179) Children as of the 15th August 2026.

Besides ensuring the comprehensive education of these children, the DDR is committed to providing adequate psychosocial support , protection and responsible parenting.

Senior staff at the DDR Centre in Buea are sharpening their skills in a two - day workshop (18-19 August 2026) in Buea on how to better handle the children. The workshop is organized by UNICEF in partnership with the Ministry of Social Affairs (MINAS).

Cameroon’s Military hierarchy has acknowledged significant progress in the DDR Centre Buea:

The Commander of the Second Joint Military Region (RMIA 2), Brigadier General Ngolo Ngomba Tobi Gabriel has expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) process in the South West Region.

In a surprised visit at the DDR Centre in Misselele -Tiko Sub Division on Wednesday July 29th 2026, the Army General visited workshops where ex-associates learn valuable skills. The DDR Regional Chief of Centre, Mr. Ngone Bernard briefed the military delegation on the daily functioning of the DDR Centre that focuses on moral transformation, the acquisition of technical/entrepreneurial skills and above all patriotism.

Brigadier General Ngolo Ngomba Tobi Gabriel used the opportunity to call on fighters still in the bushes to listen to the appeal calls of the President of the Republic, surrender their arms and join the DDR Centres.

Delighted by the message of peace by the army General, ex-associates in the Centre offer food stuff harvested from their farms to the delegation.

A visiting Colombian delegation has appreciated the transformative activities carried out by women in the DDR Regional Centre in Mora.

The female ex-associates showcased dresses , farm products and other entrepreneurial skills they have acquired through the demobilization process in the Centre.

The Colombian delegation headed by the Advisor to the National Planning Department in Colombia, Ms Hilda Maria Frerro Valencia visited the DDR Centre in Meme Village, the Meri Transit Centre, and the DDR Regional Coordination Office in Mora.

The delegation equally paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of the Far North Region, the Lamido of Mora and other local administrative personalities.

The NDDRC consolidates partnership with Colombia for a sustainable Gender Sensitive Reintegration :

Staff of the National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Committee (NDDRC) are sharing good practices in the sustainable reintegration of women and girls from the DDR Centres. The National Coordinator of the NDDRC, Francis Fai Yengo presided over a meeting on Monday 20th July 2026 with a Colombian delegation. He applauds the Colombians for their interest in the activities of the NDDRC.

The Head of the Colombian delegation; Advisor of the National Planning Department in Colombia, Hilda Maria Ferro Valencia appreciated tremendous strides made by the NDDRC in the handling of women and girls in the DDR Centres notably through the DDR Gender Strategy Document.

The Colombian delegation will visit DDR Centres in Mora and Buea to better understand the activities of women and in the DDR Centres.

The visit of the Colombian delegation falls within the framework of the “South- South Cooperation- From Colombia to the World”.

A pass mark for the implementation of DDR Gender Strategy 2021- 2025:

The handling of women, girls and other vulnerable persons in Cameroon’s Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Centres witnessed a significant improvement between 2021 and 2025 thanks to the implementation of the DDR Gender Strategy.

Through the Gender Youth and Peace Initiative (GYPI) in the Far North Region of Cameroon, the National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Committee (NDDRC) in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM - Cameroon) and UN Women executed women/girls -led activities that empowered women and in the DDR Centres. This was through trainings, workshops and the acquisition valuable moral behaviours that prepare the women and girls for sustainable reintegration.

In a hybrid evaluation meeting on Wednesday 15th July 2026 organized by NDDRC, other participants included international partners like IOM and UN women , civil society organization like Local Youth Corner Cameroon (LOYOC), and partner ministries.

The participants reviewed the implementation of the DDR Gender Strategy in the three DDR Centres in Bamenda, Buea and Mora. Meantime, reflections have begun for the revision of the DDR Gender Strategy . The new version will take into consideration new components and aspects all geared at improving the care for women,girls and other vulnerable ex-associates in the DDR Centres.

The education of children associated with armed conflict protects children , encourages peace building and strengthens sustainable reintegration:

The National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Committee (NDDRC) holds that a school goes beyond a learning avenue. It is an area that should reflect the complete safety of children at all levels. The National Coordinator of the NDDRC, Francis Fai Yengo says “ The sustainable reintegration of children from the DDR Centres starts in the classrooms “. During a side event in the course of a Regional Conference on Children and Armed Conflict in Central Africa in Yaounde on 8th July 2026, the National Coordinator stressed that education is the most powerful tool to prevent children in the DDR Centres from relapsing into armed groups and a pathway of a meaningful reintegration.

In December 2024, 447 children were among the 708 reintegrated in the community. The children received adequate education reintegration kits. Today, they are pursuing formal education in their respective areas of reintegration.

Close to 400 children attended school during the academic year 2025/ 2026 in the three schools operating in the DDR Centres. Meanwhile, six pupils from the Centres who sat for the First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) this year succeeded.

The minister of secondary education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga called on all partners to uphold the principles of “Safe School Declaration”.

The side event on the theme “ Education as a Key Tool for the Prevention,Protection and Reintegration of Children Faced with Recruitment in Armed Groups “ was moderated by the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Children and Armed Conflict (OSRSG-CAAC),Nicolas Gerard.
Participants of the event included partners in the fight against children in armed conflict notably UNICEF, UNDP and the Ministry of External Relations (MINREX).

NDDRC strengthens ties with the Office of Special Representative of the Secretary General for Children and Armed Conflict (OSRSG - CAAC):

The National Coordinator of the NDDRC, Francis Fai Yengo has called for a stronger collaboration between the National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Committee (NDDRC) and the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary General for Children and Armed Conflict (OSRSG -CAAC) for a holistic protection of children in the DDR Centres in Cameroon. This was during an audience the National Coordinator granted the Secretary General of OSRSG-CAAC, Nicolas Gerard on Friday 10th July 2026 in Yaounde.

Francis Fai Yengo explained remarkable strides made by the government of Cameroon through the NDDRC in the handling of children in DDR Centres in particular and all ex-associates in general. He however noted that more collaboration particularly with partners like the OSRSG - CAAC will further improve the situation. The Secretary General of OSRSG- CAAC, Nicolas Gerard pledged his institution’s willingness to strengthen collaboration with the NDDRC.

The Secretary General of the OSRSG-CAAC was accompanied by the United Nations Peace and Development Advisor, Mr. Stean Auguste Tshiband, and the Deputy Representative of UNICEF in Cameroon, Ms. Julliette Haenni. Meanwhile, the National Coordinator was assisted by his close collaborators.

Le Comité National de Désarmement, de Démobilisation et de Réintégration (CNDDR) abrite depuis hier à Yaoundé, "l'Atelier de Développement du Plan d'Action pour la Mise en oeuvre de la Stratégie Nationale DDR".
Une séance de travaux relative à l'implémentation de son Plan d'Action quinquennal.
L'atelier a réuni plusieurs participants qui sont les partenaires internationaux et nationaux du CNDDR, à savoir L'Union africaine, La Commission du Bassin du Lac Tchad, Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies (BICC), ainsi que ses ministères sectoriels. La séance de travail qui s'étend sur deux jours, du 06 au 07 juillet 2026, à été ouverte par le Coordonnateur National du CNDDR, M. Francis Fai Yengo. Dans son discours, il a mentionné que le Plan d'Action du CNDDR permet d'assurer le maintien et la pérennité de la paix dans les trois régions en crise, il a également ajouté que la qualité du Plan d'Action présenté démontre l'engagement ferme du CNDDR dans l'avancée du processus DDR au Cameroun.

Les travaux ont été menés par les trois Chefs de Centre régionaux DDR et leurs collaborateurs, avec l'appui des différents sous comités techniques qui ont été mis sur pied dans chacune des trois régions en crise, afin de mieux accompagner l'action du CNDDR sur le terrain.
Le plan d'Action a été délimité en deux composantes à savoir : la composante 1 (le Désarmement et la Démobilisation des ex-combattants); la composante 2 (la Réintégration des ex-combattants). Pour ce fait, les Chefs de Centre DDR du Nord-Ouest et du Sud-Ouest se sont mis en synergie pour produire le Plan d'Action qui englobe les régions du Nord-Ouest et du Sud-Ouest mettant en exergue tous les besoins des ex-combattants et des communautés du Nord-Ouest et du Sud-Ouest, tandis que le Chef de Centre DDR de Mora a produit le plan d'Action de la région de l'Extrême-Nord, mettant également en exergue les besoins des ex-combattants ainsi que ceux des communautés de l'Extrême-Nord.

Il faut noter que ce Plan d'Action vient s'adosser à la Stratégie Nationale du CNDDR qui a été élaborée en fin 2025. Il est le résultat des grandes résolutions énumérées dans ladite Stratégie Nationale, dans sa mise en oeuvre.
