As part of the celebration of the International Day for Women in the Maritime Sector, held on 20 and 23 May 2026 in Côte d’Ivoire and organized by WIMA-CI (WIMAfrica and WIMOWCA) in partnership with the Maritime Affairs section of the Réseau Ivoirien des Femmes Administrateurs, CRESMAO took part in a series of activities dedicated to female leadership, experience-sharing, and the promotion of excellence within the maritime sector.

The event held on 20 May featured a conference under the theme “From Policy to Practice: Fueling Excellence,” bringing together key stakeholders and professionals to reflect on the growing role and impact of women in the maritime industry. CRESMAO was represented by Mrs. Ndèye Sophie SAKHO , Head of the Maritime Affairs Administration Division, who notably facilitated the panel entitled “Women Leaders in the Maritime Sector: Breaking the Glass Ceiling,” creating an inspiring platform for dialogue and the exchange of experiences on the challenges and opportunities related to women’s leadership. She also participated in the hiking activity organized at Domaine BINI Forêt on 23 May, a refreshing moment of networking and informal interaction among women professionals in the maritime community.

Through this participation, the CRESMAO once again reaffirmed its commitment to supporting women who are shaping the future of Africa’s maritime sector through inclusive cooperation and leadership excellence.

The commitment, professionalism, and synergy demonstrated by all partners have been instrumental in achieving the exercise’s objectives. As this edition comes to a close, CRESMAO commends the sustained efforts and remarkable collaboration of all stakeholders whose dedication continues to advance a safer, more secure, and more resilient maritime environment in the Gulf of Guinea.

CRESMAO was represented at the first meeting of the G7++ Friends of the Gulf of Guinea (FOGG), co-chaired by Gabon and France, held in Paris on 15 and 16 April 2026. This high-level gathering brought together States of the Yaoundé Architecture, G7 countries, as well as regional and international partner organizations to address maritime security and safety challenges in the Gulf of Guinea. The opening ceremony featured remarks by Catherine Vautrin and Brigitte Onkanowa, who emphasized the geopolitical importance of the region and the need for enhanced cooperation. Structured around three thematic sessions, the discussions covered key threats including piracy, illicit trafficking, IUU fishing, cybercrime, and marine pollution, while also highlighting the role of partners such as UNODC, INTERPOL, and the European Union in strengthening legal frameworks and operational coordination.

During the exchanges, CRESMAO actively contributed to reflections on the operationalization and future evolution of the Yaoundé Architecture. Particular attention was given to ongoing progress, existing gaps, and priority actions required to enhance regional maritime governance. Emphasis was placed on the need for sustainable financing, improved coordination among centres, and the reinforcement of maritime domain awareness through tools such as the YARIS platform and information-sharing mechanisms like MDAT-GoG. The meeting concluded with key recommendations, including the designation of national focal points, better alignment of capacity-building initiatives, and the possible revision of the Yaoundé Code of Conduct to clarify responsibilities and strengthen political-level representation of the Architecture.
