With this post we want to wish you all the best for 2023! We hope that this year will be full of success and satisfaction for all of us and for the working class and the students throughout the world.

The year 2022 has marked some important happenings. The unipolar era of Atlantic hegemony is finally coming to an end and we are entering a new multipolar era, in which all peoples can finally emancipate themselves. Unfortunately, part of the Swiss sellout bourgeoisie wants to abandon our historical neutrality and hand our country over to NATO. In the face of this, as Swiss communists, we are mobilising in defense of our national sovereignty and to do this we are ready to ally ourselves with anyone who shares this priority with us, but without ever forgetting our ideological compass represented by Marxism.

The year 2022 has been a year full of political activity for our organisation. We promoted two major campaigns for the social rights of young workers and students. On the one hand, we delivered a petition to the Ticino government containing a long series of demands to combat the phenomenon of youth precariousness, a real plague in Swiss society. On the other hand, we are still campaigning for free public transport, as this is currently too expensive. In terms of international politics, the war in Ukraine has been a particular theme for us, especially with regard to internationalist solidarity with the brothers Kononovich, who were brutally arrested in March by the Ukrainian security services because of their communist and anti-fascist militancy. Beyond this, 2022 was also a year full of political training and meetings for our militants, which are growing all the time.

2023 will be a challenging year for us, during which we will have for example to mobilise all our forces for the cantonal elections in Ticino. Our goal is indeed to maintain the Communist Party's two seats in this cantonal parliament. In addition to our electoral commitments, as Swiss Communist Youth we will of course continue to fight for the rights of young workers and students and for a neutral and sovereign Switzerland, which can promote a multipolar and peaceful world. Let 2023 be a year of great success.

On Thursday we delivered our international appeal for the release of the Kononovich brothers to the Ukrainian embassy in Berne. Of course, we could not deliver it in person and therefore had to leave it in their mailbox. We must keep up the pressure on the Ukrainian government and reiterate our solidarity with our comrades who are victims of Zelensky's fascist repression. Freedom for the Kononovich brothers! ✊🏼

INTERNATIONAL APPEAL: FREEDOM FOR COMRADES KONONOVICH!

More than five months have passed since brothers Oleksandr and Mykhail Kononovich were arrested and imprisoned on baseless charges of collaborating with the secret services of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. Since then, there have been several appeals for their release, all of which have gone unheeded by the Ukrainian authorities. Numerous letters sent by communist and anti-imperialist organisations around the world to the Ukrainian embassies in their countries have never been answered. This shows all the arrogance and presumption of the Ukrainian coup government.

The silence of the other side, however, is no more surprising than that: it is clear that comrades Kononovich were arrested for their involvement in the ranks of the Ukrainian Anti-Fascist Committee and the Ukrainian Communist Party, which was banned following the 2014 coup and whose assets and headquarters were recently confiscated by the Ukrainian government. This is in the context of the tremendous anti-union and anti-communist repression that has been going on in Ukraine for a good eight years, of which the massacre at the House of Trade Unions in Odessa (where even a minor comrade lost his life) and the recent banning of all opposition parties, most of which are left or centre-left, are glaring examples.

The brothers' imprisonment constitutes a serious violation of their human and political rights. That the Ukrainian government, which came to power with the help of the West and neo-nazi paramilitary troops, does not care about the rights of its citizens is not surprising, however: the oppression of the Russian-speaking minority and the extremely violent war waged in the Donbass, where countless civilians have died under Ukrainian bombs, are exemplary proof of this.

The situation of the Kononovich brothers is still precarious and it is still necessary to mobilise internationally against this flagrant violation of rights and against the fascist-style repression of the corrupt and pro-Western government of Zelensky.

For these reasons, we demand:

- The immediate release of the Kononovich brothers and a public apology to them!

- That the trials to which the Kononovich brothers are subjected be truly fair and just!

- An end to the anti-communist, anti-union and fascist repression in Ukraine!

- The lifting of the ban on the Ukrainian Communist Party, as well as all other opposition parties!

- A condemnation of the repression in Ukraine and an immediate halt to arms exports to that country by western countries!

Freedom for Ukrainian comrades Oleksandr and Mykhailo Kononovich!

On 6 March, the Ukrainian security services announced the arrest of Oleksandr Kononovichi and Mykhailo Kononovich. Both are accused, without any basis, of collaborating with the secret services of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. In fact, the Kononovich brothers were arrested for their political activity within the Ukrainian Anti-Fascist Committee and their past militancy within the Communist Party of Ukraine (outlawed following the 2014 pro-Western coup).

The arrest of Oleksandr and Mykhailo Kononovich constitutes a serious violation of their human and political rights. Their lives are now in grave danger as the escalating conflict in Ukraine could be used as a pretext for extrajudicial ex*****on. A reality that, unfortunately, is not new and has been happening since the fascist coup of 2014, supported by the United States, the European Union and NATO: the massacre at the House of Trade Unions in Odessa, as well as the violence on civilians carried out in Donbass during eight years of war, are tragic examples of this.

The following organisations join the appeal launched by the World Federation of Democratic Youth and demand the immediate release of comrades Kononovich.

We thank the comrades of the Peoples Dispatch for mentioning us in this article about the protest against the plan to raise retirement age of Swiss working women. We will carry on our struggle!

In June, the Swiss Federal parliament agreed to raise the retirement age of women to 65 from 64. This is in a country where an 8% wage gap exists between men and women with equal qualifications, and the latter receive one-third less the retirement benefits that their male counterparts get
