On this day in 1991 (35 years ago) we performed the closing concert of the late Michael Tilson Thomas’ ‘Childhood’ series at the Barbican.

The programme included Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra and the UK premiere of MTT’s composition ‘From the Diary of Anne Frank’ with narration from Audrey Hepburn.

The Gala concert was in aid of Unicef and the LSO Endowment Fund.

Last month we were deeply saddened to hear of Michael Tilson Thomas’s passing, and we will pay tribute to his memory at our concert on 11 June.

Renowned for her natural elegance and elfin beauty, she defined the Golden Age of Hollywood with iconic films like Roman Holiday (1953) and Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961). She is one of the few entertainers to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony (EGOT).

From our garden in Tolochenaz to Apple’s 50th birthday.

Most of you know my story. The attic, the garden, the Christmas tree, the Jack Russells running everywhere. The quiet magic of La Paisible shaped everything I became.

On April 1st, 2026, I stood beside Steve Wozniak — the man who built the first Apple computer in a garage — and handed him something that felt like a full-circle moment: the world’s first augmented reality plaque of his Apple I, crafted by Cybel’Art (my own company founded in 2003 in Morges).

Audrey believed in the beauty of simple things done with heart. Woz believed one curious mind could change the world. Somehow, growing up between those roses and that kitchen led me here — to a stage, with a dream made real.

Some things take a lifetime to connect. This was one of them.

How did Audrey Hepburn become a movie and fashion icon? [Part 8]

Alberto de Rossi

Like Hubert de Givenchy, Audrey had a close, almost familial bond with Alberto de Rossi. Alberto was an Italian makeup artist who shared many of Audrey’s ideals. He felt that, instead of following makeup trends, women should stick to colors and styles that suit their skin tones. He also thought that eyebrows should be natural and never shaved off or overplucked. His influence can be seen in Audrey’s thick, natural-looking eyebrows, in contrast to some of the thinner, plucked looks of the time period. Alberto’s biggest contribution to Audrey’s career was the technique he used on her eyelashes, which Audrey’s son, Sean, described as “a slow process of applying mascara and then separating each eyelash with a safety pin.” Audrey’s large eyes enchanted many and were one of her defining features, which de Rossi helped emphasize. Alberto’s elegant, timeless makeup looks are still admired today.
