Ever wonder what the big deal about "coordination" is? Why is it so important, and couldn't things in emergencies work just fine without it?
It's true that it's the kind of work where, if done right, you barely notice it. It takes dedication, patience, persistence, and a set of skills not everyone possesses.
It's a bit like an orchestra director who takes a bunch of musicians playing in the same space and turns their individual notes into a symphony of emotion.
When CBI sends a private sector focal point to support an emergency response, as we did for Hurricane Melissa, what they do is coordination. It ensures that businesses, the UN, and the government work together in complementary ways, avoiding duplication and confusion.
