The EFTA Secretariat extends its heartfelt condolences to the Norwegian people on the passing of His Majesty King Harald V of Norway.

Our thoughts are with the Royal Family and all of Norway during this time of mourning.

En hel nasjon er i sorg.

โ€“ Det er med dyp sorg jeg har mottatt budskapet om at Hans Majestet Kong Harald V er dรธd.

En hel nasjon sรธrger, og stรฅr samtidig igjen i sterk takknemlighet for et langt liv viet til Norge.

Gjennom mer enn tre tiรฅr som konge viste Harald V en urokkelig tro pรฅ det norske folk. Han hjalp oss til รฅ se det beste i oss selv โ€“ og i hverandre.

Kong Harald fant ordene som bandt oss sammen nรฅr det betรธd som mest. Han sรธrget med oss etter 22. juli 2011. Han jublet med oss nรฅr norske utรธvere nรฅdde de stรธrste hรธyder. Og han gikk foran med varme, klokskap og รฅpenhet for et samfunn med plass til alle. Kong Harald elsket Norge. Og Norge elsket sin konge.

Min dypeste medfรธlelse gรฅr til dronning Sonja og hele kongefamilien i denne tunge stunden.

In a new ๐ฃ๐จ๐ข๐ง๐ญ ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ฉ๐š๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ (EEA EFTA Comment), the ๐„๐„๐€ ๐„๐…๐“๐€ ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ฌ outline their key priorities for Horizon Europe 2028โ€“2034.

The Comment highlights:

โ€ข Keeping ๐ž๐ฑ๐œ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž as the primary selection criterion.
โ€ข Safeguarding ๐š๐œ๐š๐๐ž๐ฆ๐ข๐œ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ž๐ž๐๐จ๐ฆ and excellence in research and innovation.
โ€ข Ensuring ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ž๐๐ข๐œ๐ญ๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ž ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ง๐จ๐ง-๐๐ข๐ฌ๐œ๐ซ๐ข๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐š๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ข๐ฉ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, in line with the EEA Agreement.
โ€ข Calling for ๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐œ๐ฅ๐š๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ on key aspects of the proposal, including dual-use provisions and links with the European Competitiveness Fund.

The EEA EFTA States also underline that their participation in Horizon Europe strengthens knowledge creation, innovation capacity and cooperation across the ๐ˆ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐ค๐ž๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ 30 ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ฌ, bringing clear mutual benefits for research communities, industry and public actors across the EEA.

Building a competitive, resilient and secure Internal Market requires investment in Europeโ€™s industrial future. ๐Ÿญ

In a new joint position paper, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway welcome the proposed Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA), aligning with its common goals for a competitive, resilient and secure Internal Market.

The EEA EFTA States are key contributors to Europeโ€™s clean industrial value chains, with strengths in renewable energy, critical raw materials, low-carbon industrial production, ocean and maritime industries, and sustainable data infrastructure. โšก

๐Ÿ“ข Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway stress the importance of safeguarding the Internal Market through proportionate and predictable rules, including those relating to โ€œUnion originโ€.

EFTA and Viet Nam conclude negotiations on a FTA ๐Ÿค

Today, the EFTA States and Viet Nam announced the conclusion of negotiations on a comprehensive and modern Free Trade Agreement.

The Agreement covers numerous areas, including:
โœ…goods and services
โœ…investment
โœ…intellectual property rights
โœ… trade and sustainable development
โœ… support for SMEs

Over the past decade, trade between the EFTA States and Viet Nam has grown steadily. In 2025 bilateral trade between EFTA and Viet Nam amounted to EUR 4.8 billion up from EUR 1.9 billion a decade earlier.
