Kutshab Tshering Lhadn presented her credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Mr. Khaled El-Enany on 16 July 2026.

Kutshab conveyed the warm greetings of His Majesty The King and the Royal Government of Bhutan. Kutshab congratulated the Director-General on his election in November 2025.

DG welcomed Kutshab, recalling Bhutan’s membership in UNESCO since 1982 and highlighting partnership in greening education, higher education, support for Bhutan’s first World Heritage nomination, climate action and media development.

Kutshab Tshering Lhadn participated in the inaugural United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance held in Geneva from 06-07 July 2026. The Dialogue brought together the United Nations Secretary-General, senior UN officials, governments, and stakeholders to advance international cooperation on AI governance.

Bhutan und Österreich verbindet eine besondere Erfolgsgeschichte 🇧🇹🤝🇦🇹

ADA-Geschäftsführer Bernd Brünner traf gestern die neue Botschafterin des Königreichs Bhutan, I.E. Tshering Lhadn. Einen Tag zuvor hatte sie Bundespräsident Alexander Alexander Van der Bellen ihr Beglaubigungsschreiben überreicht und damit offiziell ihr Amt aufgenommen.

Über 30 Jahre lang war Bhutan Schwerpunktland der österreichischen Entwicklungszusammenarbeit. Gemeinsam wurden wichtige Fortschritte erzielt – von der Wasserkraft über nachhaltigen Tourismus bis hin zur Stärkung eines fairen, unabhängigen und effizienten Rechtssystems.

Ein besonderer Meilenstein: Bhutan stieg Ende 2023 zu einem Land mittleren Einkommens auf.

Wir freuen uns auf den weiteren Austausch und die Fortsetzung der freundschaftlichen Beziehungen zwischen Bhutan und Österreich.

Kutshab Tshering Lhadn visited the office of Bhutan’s Honorary Consul in Austria, Dr.Rudolf Knünz . Dr.Knünz was appointed as Bhutan’s Honorary Consul in Austria on 7 November 2025, with consular jurisdiction over Vienna, Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Burgenland, Styria, Salzburg and Carinthia.

Kutshab Tshering Lhadn called on Ambassador Nikolaus Marschik, Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs while in Vienna. During the meeting both sides acknowledged the excellent cooperation between Austria and Bhutan spanning over three decades and agreed to explore new avenues for enhancing partnership.

Kutshab also met Mr.Bernd Brünner, Managing Director of the Austrian Development Agency.

Kutshab Tshering Lhadn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary the Kingdom of Bhutan to Austria, presented her Letter of Credence to His Excellency Dr.Alexander Van der Bellen, the Federal President of the Republic Austria at a ceremony held at the Hofburg Palace on 1 July 2026.

On the occasion, the Ambassador Lhadn conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of His Majesty The King to the President, Government and people of Austria. She reaffirmed Bhutan’s commitment to further strengthen the traditional close and friendly relations with Austria.

The ceremony concluded with an inspection of the Guard of Honour by the Ambassador.

Kutshab Tshering Lhadn met with Dr.Driss El Hadani, Deputy Director/Senior Advisor for Space Science and Education at the United Nations Office for Space Affairs in Vienna to discuss avenues for further engagement for enhancing Bhutan’s national space ecosystem.

Kutshab also met with the UNODC Deputy Director of Operations Mr.Jeremy Douglas; Ms.Giovanna Campello, Officer-in-Charge of UNODC Drug and Laboratory Branch and Mr.Ilias Chatzis, Division for Treaty Affairs.
