🌍 IGF 2026 Second Open Consultations & MAG Meeting | Day 3 wrap-up

📍 Geneva, Switzerland & online | 9 September 2026

On the final day, the MAG brought the programme into focus.

A few highlights from the day:

🔹 Members turned to planning the IGF 2026 main sessions — agreeing on topics, objectives and their linkages across the programme, including government dialogue with stakeholders and high-level sessions.

🔹 A key discussion focused on integrating the wider IGF ecosystem into the annual meeting, followed by updates from Policy Networks, Dynamic Coalitions and NRIs, and on specialized stakeholder engagement across youth, parliamentary, judiciary, business and newcomer communities.

🔹 The meeting closed with a review of decisions and action items, next steps, and closing remarks from the Host Country and the MAG Chair.

Huge thanks to everyone who engaged and contributed, onsite and online, over three highly productive days as we advance towards the 21st Annual IGF in Nairobi.

🌍 IGF 2026 Second Open Consultations & MAG Meeting — Day 2 wrap-up

📍 Geneva, Switzerland & online | 8 September 2026

Day 2 shifted into MAG working mode.

A few highlights from the day:

🔹 The MAG opened with a recap of the Open Consultations, followed by a Host Country update on preparations — website, logistics and venue.

🔹 Members reviewed the IGF 2026 thematic areas and draft public-facing narratives, and began mapping out potential main session topics and how they connect to the wider programme.

🔹 The IGF Secretariat presented the workshop evaluation results and selection, prompting a discussion on programme balance and other considerations.

🔹 In the afternoon, the four thematic groups broke out to refine narratives and priority issues, identify gaps, overlaps and opportunities for stronger linkages across sessions, and propose main session topics and other cross-cutting elements.

🔹 The day closed in plenary, with reports from each thematic group, workshop review, recap, and next steps.

A productive day of shaping the programme under this year's theme, "Governing the Internet in the Age of Intelligence: Our Shared Responsibility."

🌍 IGF 2026 Second Open Consultations & MAG Meeting — Day 1 wrap-up

📍 Geneva, Switzerland & online | 7 September 2026

Day 1 brought the multistakeholder community together in Geneva and online to shape the programme for the 21st IGF, under the overarching theme "Governing the Internet in the Age of Intelligence: Our Shared Responsibility."

A few highlights from the day:

🔹 The IGF Secretariat opened with an overview of session submissions, progress against the evaluation objectives, and the key programme milestones on the road to Nairobi.

🔹 An open consultation on the IGF 2026 programme invited input on priorities, potential main session topics, and how intersessional work, the NRIs and other elements can be woven into a coherent whole — and how the programme can best deliver on this year's theme.

🔹 A rich session on IGF 2026 in the evolving digital governance landscape featured updates from a wide range of UN entities, intergovernmental and partner organizations on synergies with the IGF in the context of the WSIS+20 outcomes and AI governance processes.

🔹 The day closed with a forward-looking discussion on strategic priorities and expected outcomes, strengthening policy relevance, actionable outcomes, capacity development and stakeholder engagement across the annual meeting, intersessional activities and the wider IGF ecosystem.

Next up on Days 2–3: reviewing workshop selections, refining the thematic narratives, and shaping the main sessions and overall programme framework.

🔬 The IGF is piloting a new exploratory format for 2026 - call for proposals is now open!

Internet Governance Labs (IG Labs) examine how emerging technologies may reshape the use of the Internet and its governance. The 2026 pilot in Nairobi takes on its first workstream: AI and the Internet.

Stakeholders submit concrete governance proposals addressing real challenges arising from AI's impact on the Internet's architecture, operation, use, openness, and governance. Those proposals are then subjected to structured, multistakeholder stress testing. IG Labs don't negotiate outcomes or endorse the proposals they examine; they pressure-test ideas in the open.

Up to three proposals will be selected for presentation and examination at IGF 2026.

📅 Submission deadline: 15 September 2026, 23:59 UTC

An information session will be held on Thursday, 3 September 2026 at 2:00 PM UTC. Register to attend here: https://intgovforum.zoom.us/meeting/register/Dz4xx1GqSdu-meLNpothAA
