Last week, a delegation of HelvetiCA attended the 66th committee meeting of ATCEUC in Lisboa, Portugal. Among many intense discussions with other European unions, the meeting was held with a focus on RP4/5 and Network Management. Additionally, the new EB was elected.

Last Friday members from "The-Merge" project and the current Central Board met in Fribourg to celebrate the 5-year anniversary of HelvetiCA following the successful merger of the four former unions on October 16, 2020.

On today’s International Day of the Air Traffic Controller, we can celebrate twice with the news to share from last week’s IFATCA ERM (European Regional Meeting). We are thrilled to announce that Benny will step up to the role of the Executive Vice President Europe that was up for election. He will shadow the current EVP EUR until the next annual conference (April 2026) when Benny’s two-year term will debut. Congratulations Benny and let us make sure that the hard work of all our ATCO colleagues is continuously cherished!

This year’s IFATCA ERM was hosted by the Italian association last week (14th-16th of October) in Bologna. A fully packed agenda kept us occupied for the 3-day meeting. Topics such as GNSS Jamming & Spoofing, ATC Job Promotion, Relationship with Management and Ageing ATCOs & Retirements were discussed. Additionally, exchanges were made with several aviation companies within Europe.

ATCEUC held its 65th committee meeting in Utrecht, Netherlands last week. Many fruitful discussions and exchanges were held between European unions under the main theme of fatigue and how to best manage it.

Concurrently, we are happy to announce that Yann has been elected to join the Executive Board of ATCEUC for a short 6-month mandate, until next elections in April 2026.

This week’s Central Board meeting allowed us to pay the Geneva TWR/APP-team a visit in the tower of Geneva (so-called Goldorak). While this allowed us to exchange with some local members, it also further enhanced the knowledge about our units for the CB members. Thanks to the team for having us!

After the insightful visit, we had work to do and many important topics to address. Fortunately, we could use the Social Partners Room in Geneva for our meeting, which proved to be a great location for it. The meeting and its discussions extended into the following day and left us with a lot of homework to do. You can expect more info on the topics in the next HB in December…

The Central Board is looking back on two exciting days. Yesterday, we kicked off with a visit in the lovely new tower of Grenchen. Truly a nice place to be. Thanks to the team for having us!

After the exchange with the team, we held a meeting at the airport facilities. Continuing the extensive task list the next day, we had to interrupt our work at lunch to transition to this year’s Skyguide Business Day in Bern. The participation has proven itself to be very insightful and beneficial due to the countless discussions with various Skyguide employees and partners.
