台灣持續與歐洲及全球民主夥伴攜手捍衛民主自由！
在賴清德總統全力支持與對歐外交政策的指示下，蕭美琴副總統日前應歐洲議會副議長皮切諾及歐洲議會義大利辦公室主任柯拉札的邀請，赴義大利文托泰內島（Ventotene）出席第二屆 #文托泰內歐洲自由與民主論壇。佳龍部長也全程陪同。
論壇上蕭副總統提到，文托泰內島在歐洲反抗極權、追求自由及推動歐盟整合的歷史進程中具有重要象徵意義。台灣同樣歷經威權統治及艱辛民主化歷程，今年適逢 #台灣直選總統30週年，更深刻體認自由民主得來不易。面對當前俄羅斯侵略烏克蘭，以及日益升高的軍事、灰色地帶與經濟脅迫等挑戰，台灣正持續強化國防、經濟安全及全社會韌性，提升通訊、能源及關鍵基礎設施的應變能力。
蕭副總統強調，沒有任何一座島嶼小到不值得擁有自己的聲音，也沒有任何一個社會小到不值得受到尊重。台灣將持續與歐洲及全球民主夥伴攜手合作，共同捍衛自由、尊嚴與民主。
此外，佳龍部長也陪同蕭副總統與歐洲議會復興歐洲黨團主席阿耶針對安全挑戰、經濟脅迫，與全社會韌性建構等議題深入交流，深化與歐洲夥伴友好關係。
Taiwan continues to defend democracy & freedom with democratic partners in Europe & around the world!
President Lai Ching-te recently directed Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim to attend the Second Ventotene European Conference for Freedom and Democracy, at the invitation of European Parliament, Vice-President Pina Picierno, and Head of the Office of the European Parliament in Italy, Carlo Corazza. MOFA Minister Lin Chia-lung accompanied the VP throughout the trip, which was undertaken in line with our European foreign policy objectives.
During her address at the conference, Hsiao highlighted the symbolism of the location, given the island's historic fight against fascism in Europe and its importance in the pursuit of freedom and European integration. Taiwan has also undergone an authoritarian era and its own process of democratization, she added, with this year marking the 30th anniversary of the first direct presidential election here, meaning the Taiwanese people know well how the hard-won values of freedom and democracy were earned. In the face of Russian aggression in Ukraine and the escalation of military intimidation, grey-zone tactics, and economic coercion, Taiwan continues to strengthen national defenses, economic security, and whole-of-society resilience, and to boost the responsiveness of ICT and energy infrastructure.
Hsiao emphasized that no island is too small to have its own voice, and no society is too small to warrant respect. Taiwan will continue to work with our democratic partners in Europe and around the world to defend freedom, human dignity, and democracy.
Minister Lin also accompanied VP Hsiao in discussions with Renew Europe President Valérie Hayer on security challenges, economic coercion, and building whole-of-society resilience, boosting our friendship with European partners.
