URGENT CALL FOR HELP Regarding a case of ethnic, cultural and social racism
Our dear second floor neighbor Karim who tolerated each event in the basement, needs our help now. He is Gambian, he works at night to make sure the supermarkets are full of food. He is black and is a victim of structural racism. He was kicked out of his flat in the middle of winter and is now waiting to be expelled from his appartement.
The agency has not repaired the boiler for two years, even though he has paid about CHF 170,000 in rent over the past ten years. Besides doing the work that nobody wants to do, but which creates wealth and comfort for white children, he apparently does not even deserve a hot shower after work. Finally, the reason for being kicked out would be some late payments. We are aware of the difficulties Karim had in renting 3 rooms in his flat because of its deplorable state. We also know that he repeatedly asked the agency to fix the bathroom. To no avail. Genuine and honest as he is, he has never done it in writing. Recently, the agency made him sign a new contract, which stipulates that the repair of the boiler is at the tenant's expense, whereas he had verbally assured him otherwise.
On top of that, his brother Musa lives with him. He came from Gambia, crossed the Mediterranean and was lucky; he survived and has a refugee status now. Recently, while looking for a flat with his brother, an agent from another company offered him a flat, only to say: "Oh no, they don't want a foreigner".
In addition to being black and being kicked out in the middle of winter, he will have a disabling reference from an agency that abuses and takes massive advantage of the weak to enrich itself while threatening the existence of people who do the jobs that are relevant to our comfort.
It is too late now to take legal action against this abuse, but it is never too late to call for honour and human dignity. Pick up your phone and call the V Agency. Fischer & Co. and ask for Ms. Charlie Spring. If you can, offer to rent one, if possible two rooms, so that you can rent them to Karim Kalley until June. After that the house will be renovated. If you can't take this responsibility, calling the reponsable person and declaring your compassion and appeal to the heart would be agreat move. It's winter and the flat is absurdly likely to remain empty until June.
