Switzerland maintains very good bilateral relations in the political, economic, and development cooperation fields with the Republic of Moldova.
In 2000 Switzerland opened its cooperation office in Chisinau.
42 Swiss citizens were living in Republic of Moldova in 2025.
Switzerland has been active in Moldova since 2000. The Swiss cooperation programme focuses on three areas: governance and social cohesion, economic development and resilience, and health and local public services.
Since 2022, Moldova has welcomed hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees and has faced significant economic, social, and energy-related pressures. Even today, around 140,000 Ukrainian refugees still live in the country, representing approximately 5% of Moldova’s population.
