একটি গনতান্ত্রিক সরকারের একটাই চাপ থাকবে সেটি হলো জবাবদিহিতা। বিদেশি চাপ বলে কিছু নেই। বাংলাদেশ একটি গণপ্রজাতন্ত্র। এদেশের সংবিধান অনুযায়ী রাষ্ট্রের সকল ক্ষমতার উৎস জনগণ। এই সংবিধান অনুযায়ী জনগণ সরাসরি ভোটে নির্বাচিত করবে জনপ্রতিনিধিদের যারা এই দেশটাকে চালিয়ে নিবে। সমস্যা ঠিক এই জায়গাটায়! জনগন ভোট দিয়ে তাদের প্রতিনিধি নির্বাচিত করার সুযোগ পাচ্ছে না! তারা তাদের ভোটাধিকারের জন্য আন্দোলন করছে। এই লড়াইটা সরকারের ওপর সুষ্ঠু ভোট আয়োজনের জন্য চাপ বাড়াচ্ছে। এটা কোনোভাবেই বিদেশি চাপ নয়, বরং এটা বাংলাদেশের জনগণের চাপ। এই পরিস্থিতিতে মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্র বাংলাদেশের গনতন্ত্র, ভোটাধিকার ও মানবাধিকার নিশ্চিত করার জন্য একটা ভিসা নীতি প্রকাশ করেছে। কিন্তু সরকার সমর্থিত চ্যানেলগুলো এই ভোটাধিকারের আন্দোলনকে অন্য পথে প্রবাহিত করার জন্য মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্র বিরোধী টকশো, খবর সিরিজ আকারে প্রচার করছে! এমনকি সরকারের বিভিন্ন মহল থেকে বলার চেষ্টা করা হচ্ছে যে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র কতৃক ঘোষিত ভিসা নীতি বিদেশি চাপের শামিল! এটি একটি জঘন্য মিথ্যাচার এবং অপপ্রচার। আমেরিকার ওপর দোষ চাপিয়ে শেষ মুহুর্তে এই অবৈধ সরকার মানুষের সহানুভূতি পাওয়ার চেষ্টা করছে।
আমাদের মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় চীন আমাদের সমর্থন করেনি এবং শেখ মুজিব স্বপরিবারে নিহত হওয়ার পর তারা আমাদের দেশকে স্বাধীন দেশ হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি দেয়। এখন কিন্তু চীন আমাদের সরকারের পরম বন্ধু হিসেবে আবির্ভূত হয়েছে। আবার আমাদের মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় রাশিয়া ও ভারত আমাদের সহায়তা করেছিলো, এটাকে কি আমরা বিদেশি চাপ বলবো? না, কারণ তখন এই সাহায্যের প্রয়োজন ছিলো। আজকের মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ভিসা নীতিটাও এমন।
আমাদের জনগণ তাদের গনতান্ত্রিক অধিকার ফিরে পেতে লড়াই করছে আর মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্র যারা দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধের পর মুক্ত গনতান্ত্রিক দেশের নেতা হিসেবে আবির্ভূত হয়ে গনতান্ত্রিক পৃথিবীর নেতৃত্ব দিচ্ছে তারা বাংলাদেশের গনতান্ত্রিক প্রক্রিয়াকে প্রমোট করা জন্য গনতন্ত্রের জন্য ক্ষতিকর ব্যাক্তিকে ভিসা রেস্ট্রিকশন দেয়ার যে নীতি ঘোষনা করেছে তা কোনোভাবেই বিদেশি চাপ নয়, বরং আমাদের দেশের মুক্তিকামী মানুষের পক্ষে দারুণ একটা সমর্থন।
The only pressure a democratic government will have is accountability. There is no such thing as foreign pressure. Bangladesh is a People's Republic. According to the constitution of this country, the people are the source of all the powers of the state. According to this constitution, the people will directly elect the representatives who will run this country. The problem is right here! People are not getting the opportunity to elect their representatives by voting! They are agitating for their right to vote. This movement is increasing pressure on the government to hold fair polls. It is not foreign pressure in any way, rather it is the pressure of the people of Bangladesh. In this situation, the United States has announced a visa policy to ensure Bangladesh's democracy, voting rights and human rights. But government backed channels are trying to divert this suffrage movement in the form of anti-US talk shows, news series! Even trying to say from various quarters of the government that the visa policy announced by the United States is part of foreign pressure! This is a blatant lie and propaganda. This illegitimate government is trying to get people's sympathy at the last minute by blaming America.
China did not support us during our great liberation war and after 15th August, 1975 they recognized us but now China has emerged as good friend of our government. On the other hand, Russia and India helped us during our great liberation war, shall we call it foreign pressure? No, because this help was much needed, such is the visa policy of the United States today.
Our people are struggling to regain their democratic rights and the United States, which emerged as the leader of free democratic countries after the Second World War and is leading the democratic world, announced a new visa policy to Bangladeshi people who will try to undermine the democracy, in order to promote the democratic process in Bangladesh which is a great support for the freedom-seeking people of our country.
