Marissa Chartier knew from a young age that she wanted to work in healthcare and do something she felt would make a real difference in people’s lives during their most difficult moments. After being accepted to both a nursing and Primary Care Paramedic program at the same time, it was the idea of being outdoors, being able to respond directly to people when they needed help, and being able to provide initial care outside of the hospital that ultimately led her to choose paramedicine.
Marissa began her career as a Primary Care Paramedic in November of 2021 in Moose Jaw. In 2023, she continued her paramedicine career in Yorkton. During that time, she built a strong foundation in patient care, communication, and teamwork, gaining valuable experience in adaptability and remaining calm under pressure.
Feeling motivated to challenge herself and continue improving the level of support she could provide to patients and teammates, Marissa decided to return to school in late 2023 to become an Advanced Care Paramedic.
“I worked alongside many ACP’s and had some great role models which made me realize I wanted to expand my knowledge, take on greater responsibility, and develop more advanced skills to provide higher level of care to my patients. Returning to ACP school was both challenging and rewarding, it pushed me to grow personally and professionally.”
Marissa has now been a licensed ACP since July 2025, and continues to expand her clinical skills, knowledge, and ability to provide advanced care in challenging situations.
“I am still new to being an ACP, but I am excited to see what else my future holds in this current role and where I may expand my career next.”
Thank you, Marissa, and all paramedics, for everything you do for your patients, your colleagues, and your communities.
