Thanks to several tips from the public, the Aklavik RCMP was able to intercept a shipment of illicit alcohol under the NWT Liquor Act before it reached the community for unlawful sale.

On October 8, officers in Aklavik found on board a boat 36 40-ounce bottles of vodka, six 200-ml bottles of vodka, two 750-ml bottles of Private Stock, and ten 15-packs of b**r.

The alcohol was seized and will be destroyed.

Two people are facing charges of unlawful sale of liquor, contrary to section 74 of the NWT Liquor Act.

The Aklavik RCMP remains committed to addressing the harm bootlegging causes to the community and would like to thank the community for its ongoing support in the effort to combat these criminal activities.

Two suspects have been arrested and charged, and suspected co***ne and cash have been seized, following a proactive patrol downtown Yellowknife on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

At approximately 1:45 a.m., on the 13th, Yellowknife RCMP officers were conducting a proactive patrol downtown when they observed two men walking near 52 Avenue and 52 Street.

Officers started a conversation with the two men and asked them to identify themselves. During the interaction, one of the men provided a false name, and was subsequently arrested and searched.

During the search, officers located suspected co***ne and formed grounds to arrest the second individual. Additional co***ne was located on the second suspect. In total, 225 grams of suspected co***ne was found on the suspects, and $3,455 in Canadian currency.

As a result, Darien Kasook, 22, and Keinan Fidow, 34, both from Edmonton, AB, have been charged with:
Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Schedule I – Co***ne, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Darian Kasook is also facing one count of Resistance or wilful obstruction of a peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code.

Both suspects have been released and will appear in court on November 3, 2026.

If you have information on suspicious activity, please report it to Yellowknife RCMP at 867-669-1111 or Crime Stoppers at https://p3tips.com

In 2025, police services across Canada reported nearly 67,400 alcohol- and drug-impaired driving offences.

Alcohol and drug impairment contributed to dozens of fatal collisions across Canada. These deaths were preventable.

From October 9 to 12, as part of Operation Impact, be prepared to provide breath samples to police in the Northwest Territories at traffic stops and checkpoints.

Plan a safe ride home instead of getting behind the wheel while impaired.

Discover our new aircraft!

The Northwest Territories RCMP has partnered with the Government of the Northwest Territories to acquire a PC-24 aircraft, a twin-engine jet.

The new Pilatus PC-24 replaces the C-GMPX, a single-engine turboprop leased from Ottawa that sustained significant damages in an accident in April 2023. Since 2023, the Northwest Territories RCMP has been relying on another leased single-engine aircraft, the C-FGMQ, as a temporary measure while awaiting a permanent solution to replace the C-GMPX.

The new PC-24 offers increased capabilities that will be better suited to our northern environment. The plane has additional passenger capacity, and its twin-engine configuration provides an additional safety benefit that will prove particularly useful during long-distance flights in the Arctic or over large bodies of water.

The G Division Air Services provides aerial support to the RCMP in the Northwest Territories with transportation of RCMP members for operational support, prisoners, critical equipment, and tactical deployment of Emergency Response Teams and other specialized units.

Recently, two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrants were conducted in Yellowknife and Behchokǫ̀, adding to a significant list of drug enforcement investigations throughout the territory this year.

On October 3, 2026, the Behchokǫ̀ RCMP responded to a call for service regarding a disturbance at a private residence. Officers attended the location and formed grounds to believe that drug trafficking activity was being conducted inside the residence.

Police obtained a CDSA search warrant for the residence. The search warrant was executed with support from the Northwest Territories RCMP Police Dog Services, and Emergency Response Teams from the NWT and the Yukon.

During the search warrant, which was executed without incident, RCMP located and seized drug paraphernalia. A 35-year-old woman was arrested and later released without charge. The investigation into this matter is ongoing.

On October 4, 2026, the Yellowknife RCMP conducted a CDSA search warrant in the area of Sissons Court with support from specialized units, including the Tactical Armoured Vehicle.

During the search warrant, a small quantity of suspected crack co***ne, Canadian currency and drug trafficking paraphernalia were located inside the residence and seized. Five individuals were arrested and later released without charges. The investigation is ongoing.

Even though these two investigations did not yield any arrests, they send a message to drug traffickers who are looking to take advantage of the vulnerability of some of our residents: the Northwest Territories RCMP will not allow illegal drug activity to go unnoticed or unchallenged.

The Northwest Territories RCMP has made it a priority to target and disrupt organized crime, illicit drugs, and alcohol.

In 2026 so far, the Northwest Territories RCMP executed more than 15 CDSA search warrants across the territory, resulting in more than 40 suspects being arrested and 25 being charged.

If you have information on suspicious activity, please report it to your RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at https://p3tips.com
