Strong communication and support between parents and caregivers helps create a positive environment for youth. When adults work together, share values, and stay connected, it strengthens the support system around young people and helps guide them toward healthy choices.
In our data, 75% of surveyed youth said their parents or caregivers know the parents of their friends. These connections help build a strong network of care, support, and accountability within the community.

Parental collaboration is an important protective factor that helps youth feel supported both at home and in their social environments.

How do you build connections with other parents or caregivers in your community?

Today, we want to highlight our leadership bowling event.

As part of our bridging program, we brought together leadership students from Meduxnekeag, Townsview, and WHS for a morning of fun and connection. The event aimed to help students build relationships across schools and create stronger peer relationships before transitioning into high school. Students enjoyed bowling, pizza, and lots of opportunities to get to know one another!

Planet Youth Woodstock is so excited to announce our major summer initiative: the Leadership Skills Series!

This summer, we will be hosting a series of leadership development workshops for middle school youth in the Woodstock area, all with a fun twist. Participants will build leadership skills without even realizing it through outdoor challenges, sports, games, arts based activities, and more. Some of the skills we will focus on include teamwork, inclusion, collaboration, public speaking, communication, active listening, and conflict resolution.

Sessions may include outdoor adventure, art extravaganzas, sports galore, and so much more. Each session will run like a day camp and will be led by amazing community members.

Best of all, this program is completely free, with lunch included! Registration will be per session, so youth can sign up for the sessions that interest them most.

Stay tuned for facilitator announcements, session themes, and the registration form. Your kids will not want to miss this!

Strong family support helps young people feel safe, confident, and connected. When youth know they can turn to their families for help, encouragement, and guidance, they are more likely to make healthy choices and avoid risky behaviours. Positive relationships at home create a sense of belonging and trust that can make a lasting impact on a young person’s wellbeing.

Support at home truly makes a difference. In our data, 74% of youth said they can easily get help from their parents with schoolwork. Having trusted adults who are present, supportive, and encouraging helps youth feel more confident, capable, and ready to succeed both in and outside of school.
Family support is one of the many protective factors that help young people thrive. Small moments of connection, encouragement, and support can have a big impact.

Who do you turn to when you need support through a challenge?

This month, we’re highlighting what the 2025 Planet Youth survey data tells us about youth and their relationships with family.

Family is one of the major domains of Planet Youth because it was identified as one of the places where youth spend most of their time. Supportive family connections are one of the strongest protective factors when it comes to youth wellness and substance use prevention.

Today, we want to highlight our Grade 1 Activity Day in February!

The goal of our grade level activity days is to encourage connection and collaboration between students from Meduxnekeag and Townsview at a young age. By creating opportunities for students to meet, work together, and have fun, we hope to build friendships early on and reduce the sense of rivalry between schools. Our Grade 1 Day consisted of free lunch, Indigenous drumming, movement and physical literacy, Science East planetarium, face painting, mini games, Lego, Just Dance, and a Pink Shirt Day Activity.
