Drug Alert: Winnipeg - Thu. May 28, 2026

Pink chunks sold as PINK DOWN tested positive for medetomidine, carfentanil and fentanyl. A non-fatal overdose resulted from this substance.

Carfentanil is up to 100x more potent than fentanyl, and a tiny amount can cause an overdose.

Medetomidine is a veterinary tranquilizer that is up to 300x more potent than xylazine.

If you are using substances, please use with a friend — someone you trust, because you might be sedated for a long time.

Naloxone does not work on non-opioid substances such as medetomidine. You should still give naloxone in cases of overdose, since medetomidine samples usually contain opioids as well.

The sample tested positive using strips for fentanyl and medetomidine on May 15. Health Canada Drug Analysis confirmed these results on May 26.
