Steinbach showed up. 🌟

This week's visit to Steinbach was warm, welcoming, and a beautiful reminder of the committed people doing incredible newcomer-serving work outside the city β€” often with fewer resources and just as much heart.

Thank you to our hosts for opening your doors to us - RRC Polytech - Steinbach Campus and Eastman Immigrant Services. We left inspired.

Last week reminded us why we do this. πŸ’™

Nearly 100 people came out for the MANSO Information & Networking Fair 2026 β€” from across the sector, across the province β€” and the conversations in that room were exactly what this community needs more of.

Thank you for showing up. See you next year.

MANSO is proud to support spaces that prioritize the wellbeing of settlement sector frontline workers. 🌿

As we recognize Mental Health Month, we invite our network to join this meaningful morning of connection, reflection, and wellness in nature at Kildonan Park.

Frontline work can be deeply rewarding, and demanding. Taking time to pause, breathe, and reconnect with community matters.

We hope to see you there! πŸ’š Because we’re

πŸ“Œ Quick resource share for the sector!

As Manitoba continues to welcome more refugee claimants, we want to share a helpful resource on available services in Winnipeg.

Often, it is community members, friends, and faith groups who provide the first layer of support. This document can help them better understand what services are available and how to navigate them.

If you have a resource you think the sector should know about, send it our way β€” we’re happy to help share it.

Every organization in our network is doing something worth talking about. This week we’re shining a light on one of them. 🌟

This week’s member spotlight: Willow Place, Inc.

Willow Place is a registered Canadian charity based in Winnipeg that provides inclusive, no-cost services for individuals and families impacted by family violence, intimate partner violence, and gender-based violence. As Manitoba’s largest and most-utilized violence prevention shelter, they offer 24-hour crisis support alongside counselling, outreach, and prevention programming for women, children, and men.

We’re proud to have them in the MANSO network.

Thursday is almost here β€” and so is one of our favourite days of the year.

The MANSO Information & Networking Fair 2026 is happening this Thursday, May 21!

Come connect with people working across Manitoba’s settlement sector. It’s the kind of event where you arrive knowing a few people and leave with new connections, fresh ideas, and a stronger sense of professional community.

We can’t wait to see you there.

Here’s the honest truth about working in this sector: the work is meaningful AND it can be really heavy. You’re asked to hold a lot β€” for your clients, for your team, for your organization β€” often with not enough resources.

Leading Under Pressure (May 26) is a training session designed for managers, Executive Directors, and senior leaders in newcomer-serving organizations to directly name this reality and explore how to work with it in a practical, sustainable way.

Facilitated by Geoffrey Thompson from the MFL Occupational Health Centre, the session will focus on psychological health and safety as a core leadership responsibility β€” not an optional wellness add-on.

If you are in a leadership role in the settlement sector, this session is designed for you.

Session 2 is in the books. πŸ“

Yesterday morning, we gathered again with Sheree Denetto and a virtual room full of people who care deeply about community work β€” and how thoughtful grant writing can better support their organizations and the communities they serve.

These sessions are creating space to reflect, learn, and strengthen how we tell our stories through funding proposals.

One more session to go β€” we’ll be wrapping up in person on May 28. The best is still ahead.

Canada’s immigration landscape has shifted dramatically over the past year β€” and settlement organizations across Manitoba are feeling the impact every day. Teams continue to respond to high service demand while navigating internal changes and the financial realities of sustaining programs that newcomers rely on.

In times like this, it’s more important than ever to recognize the people who continue to build welcoming, inclusive communities across our province.

Nominations are now open for the 2026 Manitoba Mosaic Awards β€” celebrating newcomers, immigrants, refugees, and community champions whose contributions make Manitoba stronger. This year introduces expanded categories, including the new Indigenous Bridge Builder Award and Lifetime Community Builder Award.

Know someone whose work deserves to be recognized?
Submit a nomination by July 15: https://www.gov.mb.ca/mosaicawards/index.html
