Bente Cunnings was a Canadian-based ceramic artist known for her bird figurines. She originally worked and lived in Denmark before moving to Manitoba in 1955 where she received degrees in Nursing and Interior Design. It was not until after her retirement from a long career of nursing that Cunning began her ceramic career.

A few Métis artworks from the MCML collection are in this book, published by the Métis Provincial Council of British Columbia! It's a really beautiful book with photographs, history information, techniques and patterns.

We'll be adding it to the Gladys Chown Memorial Library holdings in the next week or two.

Call for Submissions: Annual Holiday Ornament Sale

APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 4, 2026

The C2 Shop is seeking submissions for its annual Holiday Ornament Sale. Ornaments will be on display at C2 and in the online shop from Friday, November 6, 2026 to December 18, 2026 (or until they are sold!)

For ease of entering items into our system, we will be accepting a maximum of three individual ornament types per artist. For example, you make a variety of felted animal ornaments. For this opportunity, you would pick three of your animal motifs to submit to the call (eg. fox, bear, rabbit). If selected for inclusion in the sale, you could then bring identical multiples of each motif to sell (eg. 4 foxes, 8 bears, 6 rabbits).

Sometimes museums make mistakes too! On Monday we posted that these mugs were by Kevin Stafford, but they are actually by Steve Jorgenson.

Steve was born in the Seattle, Washington area. After studying in St. Paul Minnesota, he moved to Canada in 1975, settling in Winnipeg. In 1985 he joined the Stoneware Gallery and has been making functional work for the past 40+ years.

Steve also makes ceramic human figure sculptures and wood based sculptures.

Kevin Stafford is Winnipeg-based ceramic artist and instructor. Stafford received an MFA in ceramics in 1990 from the University of California Los Angeles. Stafford’s work is influenced by his research on antique ceramics and glazes. He is notable for his recurring cat motifs.
