Summer may have been slow to arrive, but that doesn't mean it's time to speed on Winnipeg's waterways.

Did you know there are posted speed limits on the Red and Assiniboine Rivers?
• Red River: 70 km/h (day) | 50 km/h (night)
• Assiniboine River: 37 km/h (day) | 10 km/h (night)
• Boat launches, marinas and public docks: 9 km/h at all times

Speed limits are in place to help keep everyone safe on the water. Whether you're cruising, fishing, paddling, or enjoying a day with family and friends, stay alert and be aware of your surroundings.

Navigating a vessel on a river is far different than operating one on a wide-open lake. Currents, floating debris, submerged hazards, shallow areas and changing conditions can appear quickly and leave little time to react.

Watch for markers, know the posted speed limits, and adjust your speed to conditions. A little caution goes a long way toward keeping Winnipeg's waterways safe and enjoyable for everyone.
