Beyond Pride Month - Respecting People's Pronouns

Respecting peopleโ€™s pronouns is an easy way to make a difference in your every day interactions and have a positive impact in your community.

Introduce yourself with your pronouns alongside your name; this invites other people to do the same without standing out.

Donโ€™t assume a personโ€™s pronouns based on their appearance.

Ask everyone in the room, so you donโ€™t single anyone out about their gender expression.

If you accidentally use the wrong pronoun for someone, correct yourself and commit to getting it right next time. Apologize and donโ€™t make a big deal of it - donโ€™t make it about you.

If you notice someone has used the wrong pronoun for another person, you can simply correct them. For example: โ€œAlex actually uses they/them pronouns.โ€
