Prejudice, discrimination, and racism are lived realities for far too many Manitobans and Canadians, and we’re disappointed to see any actions that perpetuate those realities in our politics, campus life, or institutions.

The Young Liberals of Canada (Manitoba) is an organization built on diversity and acceptance. Taking action to ensure a safe, inclusive environment for all is and must always be our utmost priority. This includes adhering to the Liberal Party of Canada’s Respectful Workplace Policy, and its Safe Campaigns program, which also apply to all of our volunteers.

As an executive, we condemn anti-Black racism and discrimination in all of its forms — are committed to ensuring the safety, inclusion, and respect of our members and volunteers today and always.

Great news for students in this time of crisis as our government has announced the Canada Emergency Student Benefit. This new benefit will provide $1,250 per month from May through August for eligible students, and $1,750 for students with dependents or permanent disabilities.

As the University of Manitoba lies within my riding, I have heard from many students who are worried about their financial situation as they were unable to qualify for any of the previous benefits. So I am extremely happy to provide this positive news for students during a period where they are particularly worried about how they will pay for their tuition, books, and living costs over the summer and leading into the next school year.

More information will soon be available on the Government of Canada's website at canada.ca/coronavirus

“Pallister’s inability to acknowledge the longer-term economic consequences of his austerity can also be seen in a foolish directive to colleges and universities to reduce their staffing expenses by as much as 30%.”

It's a daily exercise in futility. Pretty much every day, we in the news business receive a media advisory indicating that Premier Brian Pallister will be appearing at a virtual news conference to announce new "COVID-19 measures.

This photo was taken shortly before I introduced Justin Trudeau at our rally on Saturday. I’m proud of what we have accomplished together.

We helped raise more than 300,000 children out of poverty through the Canada Child Benefit, helped foster an economy that created over 1.1 million new jobs, we stopped sending child care cheques to millionaires, we reversed the Harper government’s cuts to seniors and veterans, took real action to fight climate change, made concrete steps towards reconciliation with Indigenous people, and much more.

Now we have an opportunity to keep moving forward.

During my twenty years treating patients in the emergency room, I witnessed ordinary people having to make decisions between paying for prescriptions or putting food on the table.

This isn’t a choice that anyone should have to make. That’s why I believe so firmly in our commitment to Universal Pharmacare. Let’s work together to make it a reality!

Please vote today. Your vote ensures your voice will be heard in Ottawa.

“I would ask my opponent, would she knock on doors and tell people in Winnipeg Centre who are practising Catholics, that she believes them to be complicit in child rape?”

The Liberal incumbent candidate for Winnipeg Centre is accusing his NDP opponent of intolerance over a 14-month-old Facebook post that implied all Catholics are complicit in s*x crimes committed by priests.
