The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce held another successful MBiz Breakfast this morning featuring a conversation on Manitoba’s economic future with Premier Wab Kinew.

The theme of the morning was clear: Manitoba’s future success will be shaped by the choices we make today. From addressing youth unemployment and creating pathways for young people to enter the workforce, to accelerating opportunities in mining, achieving the vision for Churchill, and maintaining positive relationships with our trading partners, collaboration across business, government, and communities will be essential.

Premier Kinew’s remarks also emphasized the importance of investing in Manitoba’s youth, expanding our skilled workforce, and positioning the province to make strides in energy and mineral production, all of which will contribute to the overarching goal of making Manitoba a have province.

As the MCC event season ends, we’re grateful to everyone who joined us for these important conversations about Manitoba’s future and the role each of us can play in building it.

A special thank you to our MBiz Breakfast sponsors for their support at this event: Town of Niverville, Manitoba Pork, Miller Environmental, CPHR Manitoba, Travel Manitoba, Manitoba Egg Farmers, World Trade Centre Winnipeg, and the Free Press.

The Summer Edition of MBiz Magazine is Now Available!

Manitoba’s economic outlook is increasingly shaped by one defining factor: people.

Across the province, businesses are navigating labour shortages, evolving workforce demands, and growing competition for talent, while workers adapt to a labour market changing faster than ever before.

The latest edition of MBiz Magazine explores the workforce challenges and opportunities shaping Manitoba’s future economy. From recruitment pressures and skills shortages to workforce participation and training, this issue examines how Manitoba can better engage young people, upskill workers for high-demand industries, and strengthen partnerships between industry, educational institutions, and communities.

Inside this edition:
- labour shortages and talent attraction,
- skills development and training,
- immigration and workforce participation,
- childcare and economic growth,
- and partnerships that are increasing opportunities – and success – for students in northern and remote communities.

As Manitoba businesses continue to identify workforce challenges as one of their top areas of concern, the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce will continue to explore the ideas, partnerships, and strategies that can strengthen Manitoba’s workforce, support economic growth, and position our province for long-term success.

We were pleased to welcome Canada’s Minister of Finance and National Revenue, The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, to the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce on Monday afternoon for a timely conversation following the release of the 2026 Spring Economic Update.

Speaking to a sold-out room of nearly 200 business and community leaders, Minister Champagne outlined the federal government’s plan to build a stronger, more resilient Canada. Addressing his comments directly to Manitobans, the Minister spoke of the optimism and hard-working fabric of our province, saying “the spirit of this region is phenomenal: everything is possible, everything is doable.”

A key theme of the Minister’s remarks was recognition that building Canada’s economic resilience requires strong partnerships with provinces and the private sector and included a nod to the important role that provinces like Manitoba play in that national effort.

For Manitoba, this conversation is one that MCC and our partners in the Manitoba Advantage having been pushing for. Our province sits at the centre of Canada’s trade corridors, with strategic assets like CentrePort Canada, the Port of Churchill, and a highly integrated rail network positioning Manitoba as a critical hub for trade, logistics, and national security.

We are encouraged by the Minister’s recognition that building Canada’s economic resilience requires strong partnerships and were particularly pleased by his recognition of the importance of a modernized Port of Churchill to achieving Canada’s economic and trade diversification potential.

Thank you to Minister Champagne for joining us, and to all who participated in a thoughtful and forward-looking discussion on Canada’s economic future.

This was a new format for MCC, taking place in the late afternoon and including networking opportunities both before-and-after the formal program. Let us know what you thought about the time, format, and the famous Fort Garry hotel snacks served during the event. Your feedback is important to us so please drop a comment with your thoughts on our latest event!
