Windsor IWW The official page of the Windsor, Ontario General Membership Branch of the Industrial Workers of the World We organize through solidarity unionism.

We are the Windsor General Membership Branch of the Industrial Workers of the World. Things in Windsor have gotten very bad and it is time we as Windsorites take a stand and say we will take no more, it is time we begin to build one big union in this city to stand up for our rights and also begin to build a new world in the shell of the old. The Industrial Workers of the World works to organize al

l workers, regardless of job into one big union. The IWW organizes the worker, not the workplace which means that if you are the only worker in your workplace who is a member you will recieve assistance if you are in need. Every member pay dues voluntarily (Our constitution forbids the dues checkoff). This allows us to build solidarity across industries and know that we all have each other back in our time of need. We also dont get government certification or sign contracts with employers because we know that power lies in the workers themselves and as long as we stick up for each other certification and contracts are not necessary. Contracts allow employers to prepare for the posibility of a strike which makes the threat of a strike pointless. The IWW also is a member run union, we only have one paid staff person in the entire union ! (General secretary treasurer). This is an elected position with a maximum term limit of 3 years. We dont even have the position of president in order to prevent anyone from gaining influence within the union.

So as many folks know, I'm part of a group working to refound the Windsor Workers' Action Centre. I met many of you at one of the many events held at the old location on Pellisier. The workers centre holds a special place in my heart and I want to do it justice by rebuilding it bigger and better.

Since this project began last summer we have:

- Reconstituted the board
- Built a website
- Opened a new bank account and got a new phone #
- Held multiple events, as well as attended labour day and other events.
- Stood in Solidarity and offered support to workers on Strike locally.

The reason I am messaging is we are in the early stages of raising funds to open a physical space and any donations folks can offer would be greatly appreciated.

We are looking primarily for monthly donors in order to be able to maintain a stable income in order to better help workers in need, but any donations are greatly appreciated.

I understand times are tough so if you can't donate that's okay, but please take a moment to share this around.

You can sign up as a monthly (or individual Donor) at the link below.

In Solidarity,

Vajo
President - Windsor Workers' Action Centre

EMERGENCY CALL FOR SOLIDARITY:

Rasheedat Bakare, her husband Afeez, their son Faaiq and daughter Faiqah all fled Nigeria and arrived in Canada in 2017. The family's youngest daughter Farhana was born in Canada in 2018. Rasheedat is 5 months pregnant with another daughter. The Bakare family fled Nigeria out of fear their daughter would be subjected to female ge***al mutilation. In a recent CBC article, Afeez is quoted: "People from home, now they know that I'm in Canada, if I go back home, they are going to kill me, they're going to kill my wife," he said. The Canadian government has served the family with a deportation order.

Afeez has been working to support his family in Canada, but the family was charged $5000 by a legal counsel who left them with a deportation notice. The Canadian government intends to deport the family and has already confiscated their Health Cards, leaving a pregnant mother and her three young children unable to utilize hospitals or clinics.

We are doing everything in our power to bring together mosques, community organizations, and others to oppose this senseless deportation. In the meantime, we are trying to raise funds to keep the family comfortable and cared for and to help replace the $5000 of savings that the family lost because (we believe) they did not understand the immigration system and put trust in people who did not assist them. It is important to note that in the city of Windsor there is free legal aid available for refugees and that $5000 is a completely unreasonable fee for these services.

The Bakare family arrived in Canada in 2017 as refugees, they face deportation and fear for their lives and those of their children. Please help us help them.

We as a community must come together and demand refugee status for the Bakare family. We must hold our representatives responsible for their inaction. We must organize to protect our fellow workers, we cannot allow our government to condemn innocent people to death and female ge***al mutilation.

To any organizations or individuals thinking about taking action to preventing this senseless, disgusting deportation: please reach out to us so that we can make the best use of our collective resources.

Solidarity with the Bakare family, and solidarity with working-class folk everywhere.

A Nigerian family facing deportation is calling on the Canadian government to provide any assistance possible to avoid returning home, out of fear that two young girls — with another on the way — will be subjected to female ge***al mutilation.

I dreamed, I saw Joe Hill last night
Alive as you and me.
Says I, "But Joe, you're ten years dead.”
"I never died," says he.
"I never died," says he.

Joe Hill was murdered on this day in history in 1915.

Don’t mourn. Organize.
