During Crossing Guard Appreciation Week, we recognize and thank the dedicated crossing guards who help keep students safe on their journey to and from school.

Whether rain or shine, your commitment to safety, your friendly presence, and your dedication to our community make a lasting impact. Thank you for helping students develop safe pedestrian habits and for making every crossing a safer one.

🎨🚫 See graffiti? Report it. Remove it. Reclaim the space.

Graffiti that’s left untouched can signal that an area is neglected, making it more inviting for further vandalism and crime. One of the key principles of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design is maintenance and territorial reinforcement — when communities care for a space, it shows ownership and discourages unwanted activity.

✔ Report graffiti to 311
✔ Remove it quickly when safe to do so
✔ Keep fences, walls, alleys, and public spaces clean and well-lit
✔ Consider community art or murals in frequently targeted areas

A clean, cared-for neighbourhood sends a strong message:
People here are paying attention.

❓ Thinking about starting a Neighbourhood Watch group? Here are some common questions we hear!

Neighbourhood Watch is about neighbours looking out for one another through communication, awareness, and reporting suspicious activity — not confrontation or patrols. 👀🏘️

Whether you rent, own, or live in an apartment or condo, everyone can play a role in helping keep our communities safe and connected.

✔ Lock your shed or garage
✔ Store ladders out of sight
✔ Mark valuable tools
✔ Don’t leave equipment outside overnight

This Victims and Survivors of Crime Week, we’re encouraging our community to lead with empathy, understanding, and care. When someone shares that they’ve been affected by crime, your response matters.

Support isn’t about having the perfect words—it’s about creating a space where someone feels safe, heard, and respected.

Listening without judgment, respecting their privacy, and avoiding blame can make a real difference in how supported someone feels. Even small responses like “I’m here for you” or “I’m glad you told me” can help.
