WHAT WE DO
Community Food Share distributes emergency food aid to the residents of the Dundas and Stormont Counties. Our Food Bank Coordinator monitors the distribution of food, organizes and keep confidential client records and supervise the volunteers. WHERE DOES THE FOOD COME FROM
The food is provided through the generous donations from individuals, organizations and businesses in our community

. Many corporate donors provide food that was not sold due to over-production or that has slightly damaged packaging. When we receive monetary donations we purchase specific food items that help balance the nutritional value of the food distributed to those in need. WHAT FOOD ITEMS DO WE NEED
Some suggestions are canned pasta, canned fruit (398 ml and 796 ml), canned vegetables (398 ml and 540 ml), cereal (no sugared or nuts almonds, etc.), kraft dinner, pork and beans, pasta sauce, crackers, canned meat/tuna and children’s snacks – Rice Krispie squares, granola bars, fruit and pudding cups, juice boxes, crackers and cheese. OTHER ITEMS WE NEED
We also need:
Toiletries – shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, toilet paper, laundry soap
Baby items – diapers, baby wipes, baby food, cereal and formula

HOW IS FOOD DISTRIBUTED
People who use food banks do so because they have no other choice. They are from all parts of the community and from different backgrounds and circumstances. Each client is given a five-day supply of nutritionally-balanced food for each family member. Clients are allowed to visit no more than once a month and the vast majority use the food bank only a few times. Clients must choose which location they will visit so there is no overlapping service.

💛 We are so grateful to Food Banks Canada and their sponsors for the After the Bell program.

Through, After the Bell, children and families in our community have had access to nutritious food during the summer months when school programs are not available. This support makes a meaningful difference, helping ensure that children in our community can enjoy healthy food throughout the year.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this program possible - your generosity, dedication, and commitment to fighting hunger truly have an impact 💛

🛒 Ever wondered what it’s like to shop at a food bank?

At Community Food Share, we use a shopping model, which means our clients can choose many of the foods that best meet their family’s needs, just like they would in a grocery store.

This approach helps reduce food waste, accommodates dietary preferences and restrictions, and gives people the dignity of making their own choices.

When you donate to Community Food Share, you’re helping us keep our shelves stocked with a variety of nutritious foods so families have options—not just a pre-packed box.

Together, we’re creating a more respectful, compassionate, and empowering food bank experience for everyone ❤️
