Children don't come with instruction manuals, and when it comes to food, every child is different.

Some are eager to try new things. Others prefer the same foods every day. Many caregivers find themselves wondering what is typical, what is not, and how to navigate all the in-betweens.

Feeding Our Littles is a FREE, practical session for caregivers of children ages 1–5, facilitated by Shannon and Sarah. Together, you'll explore strategies that can help reduce pressure around food and support positive mealtime experiences.

Topics include:
• Introducing new foods without pressure
• Responding when a child refuses a meal
• Supporting children who eat only a small variety of foods

There is currently no set session date. We're gathering interest and will schedule sessions based on participant availability.

The more interest we receive, the easier it is to find times that work for families!

We’re continuing our thank-you campaign by recognizing the businesses and organizations that help make our community stronger for children, youth, and families.

This week, we’re sending our appreciation to Realm of Toys & the Nerd Room. Mike from Foundry Cariboo Chilcotin stopped by with one of our handmade pencil holders as a small thank-you for the positive role Realm of Toys plays in our community and for their support of local families.

It’s community-minded businesses like The Realm of Toys & The Nerd Room that help create welcoming spaces and opportunities for children, youth, and families to thrive. We’re grateful to have them as part of our community.

The Cariboo Chilcotin Child Development Centre is deeply saddened by the passing of Eric Johansen.

Eric was a long-standing and deeply valued member of the CDC family. As a board member, mentor, supporter, and lifetime member, he gave generously of his time, wisdom, humour, and care. His commitment to children, youth, families, and community helped shape the CDC in lasting ways.

Eric believed in the work of the Centre and in the importance of supporting children and families close to home. His steady guidance, community spirit, and genuine kindness left a meaningful mark on our organization and on the many people who had the privilege of knowing him.

We are grateful for Eric’s years of service, leadership, and friendship. He will be remembered with deep respect and affection by the CDC community.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Shona, his family, friends, and all who are grieving his loss.

Some of the best parts of the week can be surprisingly simple — a child discovering something new, a conversation over coffee, or time spent with other families.

At the CDC this week, both Early Years and Mom's Connection are running on Tuesday (June 16th) , with Early Years returning again on Wednesday (June 17th).

This month at Early Years, we're exploring the theme Growing with Nature, with activities that encourage children to move, create, imagine, and discover through hands-on play inspired by the natural world.

Parenting does not always look the way we expected.

Some children need us to show up differently — with clearer communication, sensory support, help with transitions, co-regulation, advocacy, and other approaches to enhance connection.

The CDC is creating a new caregiver connection group for parents, guardians, and caregivers who are figuring out how to best support their child’s unique needs.

This is a chance to help shape a group around what caregivers actually need — especially when that kind of support, connection, or practical guidance may not exist elsewhere in the community.

This group may be especially helpful for families supporting children with Autism, ADHD, anxiety, sensory differences, emotional regulation challenges, executive functioning needs, or children who are still waiting for answers.
A diagnosis is not required.

Your input will help us understand what would be most useful, what gaps families are experiencing, and how this group can be shaped to offer meaningful support.

Please help us by taking our short survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KHNPGMW and help us spread the word!
