Local Government Awareness Week Day 6 (Friday, May 15): Protective Services
Did you know?
The City of Williams Lake Fire Department's call volume has grown by six to seven per cent every year for the past 25 years?
In 2002, WLFD responded to 109 calls. In 2025, the department responded to 510 calls. This year, they are on pace for 550 calls - nearly five times the workload of the early 2000s.
The Protective Services Department is dedicated to ensuring that every part of our community, including homes, businesses, neighbourhoods, streets and recreational areas remain safe and secure. When incidents arise, our team takes prompt, professional and effective action to uphold public safety and restore peace of mind.
Whether responding to emergency fire calls, working with neighbours frustrated over an uncut lawn, business owners concerned about vulnerable populations near their property or consoling individuals that may have lost their homes or loved ones, Protective Services staff provide considerate and professional response to our community.
The Williams Lake Fire Department, through the Fire Chief, is responsible for the fire protection services for the City of Williams Lake and surrounding area.
The WLFD also provides support through public education, Wildland Structure Protection and hazardous material decontamination services amongst others. As the Director of Protective Services, the Fire Chief also oversees Community Wellbeing and Safety, Bylaw Services and Emergency Management.
