Looking for ways to keep your energy costs down this winter? Get a free permit to cut firewood for personal use, including heating your home.

It’s easy! Just apply for a forest resources permit to cut up to 11 cords of fuel wood.

Apply online: https://personal-use-fuel-wood-permit.service.yukon.ca/. Apply in person at your local Compliance Monitoring and Inspections office.

You can only cut firewood in designated harvest areas. Check out our interactive map of designated harvest areas: https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/9b1402c4f182428f954490f304539cbb

Remember, you must carry either a digital or paper copy of your permit while harvesting.

FireSmart work is underway at the Robinson Roadhouse Historic Site. A contractor is working on approximately 3 hectares around the site, south of Annie Lake Road and west of the South Klondike Highway. This work helps to protect historic resources and improve resilience to wildfire.

Watch for signage in active work areas. Usable firewood will be piled along publicly accessible trails around the site perimeter. Cutting firewood within the historic site is prohibited. Brush will be piled and burned later this fall. The site and trails remain open.

Energy, Mines and Resources staff will be at the Fireweed Community Market at Shipyards Park in Whitehorse on Thursday September 3.

Come and talk with us between 3 pm and 7 pm to learn about:
• research and books on the Yukon’s energy, mines and other natural resources; and
• farming and gardening.

Our library also has resources like the free seed library, seed-saving information, aerial photographs, books and magazines!

Ask agrologist Randy Lamb about soil sampling and testing, agriculture funding, farming and gardening in the Yukon, or the Agriculture Branch’s Yukon Grown initiative: https://yukon.ca/en/yukon-grown.
