Today, on International Firefighters Day, we proudly recognize and celebrate the dedication, courage, and sacrifice of firefighters everywhere.

At Whitecourt Fire Department, this day holds special meaning. It’s a time to honour the commitment of our members who stand ready—day and night—to protect our community. Whether responding to emergencies, supporting one another, or training to stay prepared, their service does not go unnoticed.

We also take a moment to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their bravery and legacy will never be forgotten.

To our firefighters, your strength, professionalism, and unwavering commitment make a difference every single day. Thank you for everything you do.

💙 Stay safe. Stay strong. We are proud to serve.

A couple of weekends ago, our members had the opportunity to take part in a 2-day Ice Rescue Technician Course ❄️🚒

Big thanks to Karsten from Raven Rescue for the top-notch instruction and sharing his expertise with the team. It was definitely a fun, sunny and chilly! couple of days out on the ice, pushing our skills and building confidence in cold water rescue scenarios.

Proud of our crew for stepping up and continuing to train hard, because when it matters most, training makes the difference.

🚒 2026 Whitecourt Fire Department Recruit Class – Gear Issue Day! 🔥

Today was a big milestone for our newest recruits as they took their first steps into life at the hall!

Our 2026 class spent the day:
👨‍🚒 Receiving their locker assignments
🧰 Being issued their full PPE gear
⚙️ Learning how to don and doff their PPE
🔍 Completing PPE inspections
🏫 Completing their hall orientation

This is where the journey truly begins—building confidence, mastering the fundamentals, and preparing for the challenges ahead. We’re proud of the hard work and dedication shown so far, and we can’t wait to see this group grow into the firefighters they’re meant to become.

Welcome to the WFD family, recruits!

Charge into Fire Safety!

This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign runs, October 5-11

“Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” works to educate everyone about using these batteries safely.

Please remember to Buy, Charge, and Recycle safely when it comes to lithium-ion batteries.

🔋 Buy only listed products. When buying a product that uses a lithium-ion battery, look for a safety certification mark such as UL, ETL, or CSA. This means it meets important safety standards.

⚡Charge devices safely. Always use the cords that came with the product to charge. Follow the instructions from the manufacturer. Buy new chargers from the manufacturer or one that the manufacturer has approved. Charge your device on a hard surface, never on your bed, couch or under a pillow. Don’t overcharge your device. Unplug it or remove the battery when it’s fully charged.

♻️ Recycle batteries responsibly. Don’t throw lithium-ion batteries in the trash or regular recycling bins because they could start a fire. Recycle your device or battery at a safe battery recycling location. Visit call2recycle.org to find a recycling spot near you.
