Today, our hearts are with the family of fallen Columbia Police Officer Christopher DeLong Jr. who made the ultimate sacrifice serving others.

Behind every badge is a family that loves, worries, waits, and prays for their officer to come home safely. Today, one family is facing the unimaginable pain of knowing theirs will not.

We grieve with them, we stand with them, and we will never forget the sacrifice their loved one made. Please keep his family, friends, brothers and sisters in law enforcement, and all who wear the badge in your prayers. 🙏

🚨🚨SLED Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Southeast Park Area; Two Officers Injured

COLUMBIA SC — The Columbia Police (CPD) is responding to an officer-involved shooting that occurred this morning in the Southeast Park area of Columbia.

Two CPD officers were injured during the incident. At this time, there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating the officer-involved shooting. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is also assisting with the investigation.

Because this remains an active and ongoing investigation, additional details are limited at this time. CPD asks members of the public and media to avoid the immediate area as investigators continue their work.

Additional information regarding the incident will be provided by 3:00 p.m. today.

CPD appreciates the public’s patience as investigators work to gather and confirm the facts surrounding this incident.
