Junior Ranger Day is THIS WEEKEND at Jack’s Pond Park & Nature Center. Join us, Saturday, May 16 from 2–6 p.m.! 🌳 🏞️

Kids and families can earn a Junior Ranger badge through hands-on activities exploring local plants, animals, conservation, and trail safety. Guests can explore the Nature Center, enjoy free vendor booths from organizations like Home Depot, the Boy Scouts, and Vallecitos Water District, and participate in fun extras like a chalk bike course with free bike and helmet safety checks from Ride Krew. 🚲

There will also be free crafts, including tote bag decorating, rock ring making, and rock painting, as well as outdoor games, music, and a chance to meet a ranger. 🪨🎨🌮

This is a free event, with activities available while supplies last. Parking is limited, so street parking and carpooling are encouraged. 👏

We’re excited to share some great news! Due to high demand and waitlist interest, we’ve opened an additional K-Pop Musical Theater Production (Full-Day Camp) for the week of July 6-10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Spots are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage you to register here as soon as possible if you’d like to participate.

Plan your route and bike to one of more than 100 pit stops across the San Diego region, including the San Marcos Community Center, on Thursday, May 21, from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Registered participants can stop by the San Marcos location to grab a free t-shirt, snacks, and more, while supplies last. The Smart Splash Summer Bash is taking place this Saturday, May 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sunset Park. ☀️ This free, family-friendly event will feature fun hands-on activities for all ages. 🍦

Event highlights include:

• Free Ice Cream
• Interactive booths from local partners (Vista Irrigation District, EDCO & more)
• Terrarium building station with Vallecitos Water District
• “Under the Sea” Photo Booth

Residents are also invited to take part in the Watershed Art Contest. Submit artwork inspired by pollution prevention, local creeks, or wildlife for a chance to be featured at the event and win prizes including art supplies and gift cards. Entries are due by May 7 at 4 p.m. at City Hall.
