Today, we're featuring our longtime volunteer Celia Brooks, whose pick was a recent Community Book Club read and a definite favourite amongst our members.

Here's Celia:

Ducks was my first adult graphic novel. Kate Beaton shares her personal experience working in Alberta’s oil sands for two years to pay off student loans. Through dialogue and art, she tells a story of strength, courage, and vulnerability that resonated deeply with me both emotionally and educationally, especially given my Edmonton roots.

Today we're sharing a fave from our former Youth Services Librarian, Kaley O'Brien! Our team has been missing Kaley since her departure in March, so it's a real treat for us to include her in this project. (We're also excited to meet our new Youth Services Librarian in the coming months!)

From Kaley:

The Song of the Lioness is one of the first series I remember reading with my mom when I was little. Alanna taught me that with perseverance, good friends, and the courage to do the right thing, anyone can be a hero. The series has knights, magic, mystery, and a talking cat, all mixed in with a relatable coming of age story. I reread it often and enjoy it every time!

We're sending a huge THANK YOU out to everyone who visited us this weekend! The Friends of Whistler Library raised a record-breaking $8,215 at their Giant Used Book Sale this weekend and we had 2400 visitors between Saturday & Sunday (including everyone who participated in the Arts Whistler Family Art Adventure). We appreciate each and every one of you!

Every dollar raised at the Book Sale will support library programs you love, like Bear Talks with Michael Allen, our Summer Kick-Off Party, Barbed Choir, Reading Link Challenge, and much more.
