'Whistler's natural environment needs your voice today'

Whistler’s natural areas are core to our community’s identity - supporting wildlife, biodiversity, and climate resilience. They’re the places that hold ecological value we’ve committed to protect.

Right now, the RMOW is proposing an amendment to Whistler’s Official Community Plan (OCP) that would change the land‑use designation at 1001 Legacy Way from “Protected Natural Area” to “Residential – Low/Medium.”
This is a significant shift for land currently identified for environmental protection.

“Protected Natural Area” is one of Whistler’s strongest environmental designations. These areas help maintain wildlife habitat and movement corridors, native vegetation, ecosystem connectivity, and natural climate buffers. Changing this designation affects how these ecological functions may be protected or managed in the future.

The RMOW is gathering community feedback about the proposal. Here's what you can do to speak up for Whistler's natural environment.

To keep looking back at the mistakes we’ve made, always trying to fix them. But that’s no way to live. Instead, we need to look at what is happening now, using the rearview as a guide. Learn from the past to move ahead in the best way possible. Don’t forget the past, but keep going forward and doing better because of what you have learned — about yourself, about this world, and about others.
