If you’re a ski area operator anywhere in the Midwest—or neighboring regions—and you’ve been curious about lift-access mountain biking, this year’s NSAA Downhill Bike Park Summit at Giants Ridge is worth a look.

The program is built around some pretty practical questions:

• Should your resort be in the bike park business?
• What does a successful bike park actually look like?
• What have successful operators learned that others can apply?

I'll be running a session that picks up from there and focuses on the operational side of the business—rentals, lessons and programming, guest conversion, revenue opportunities, and the metrics operators should be tracking to understand what’s working and what’s not.

I’m also excited about Gravity Logic’s presentation on the Oz Trails Bike Park project in Bella Vista AR. From concept and feasibility to design and implementation, the project is adding an entirely new dimension to riding in one of North America’s premier mountain bike destinations and challenging conventional thinking about where lift-served bike parks can succeed.

Whether you’re just exploring the idea, operating a bike park, or looking for ways to take your summer business to the next level, there will be plenty of practical ideas and real-world lessons to take home.

Oh and this isn’t a hotel conference. We’ll be at a bike park, with plenty of time to get out on the hill, ride some laps, and experience Giants Ridge firsthand.

Hope to see some new faces—and plenty of familiar ones—at Giants Ridge.

Do yourself a favour and out to Parc-vélo Sugarloaf Bike Park in Cambellton this summer. Sugarloaf was one of our first clients and we've been working with them for almost 20 years! In addition to a great lift access bike park, there's also a climbing trail and a great enduro/XC zone as well. Gravity Logic staff are already digging at Sugarloaf this spring, and we've got a brand new jump trail just about ready!

Its been incredibly satisfying slinging rocks and dirt in the same forest where we spent so much time 30 years ago. Even better has been running into old friends that know the history of the trail and newer riders who are enjoying it for the first time. Thanks to S***A - Squamish Off-Road Cycling Association and Shimano Bike for giving us the opportunity. Also huge thanks to Laurant and Alex for bringing new ideas and strong backs to an old trail!

After first delivering our feasibility study in February, 2024, Gravity Logic recently wrapped up a 16-month build of the Oz Trails Bike Park. Transforming an idea into spinning chairlifts in two and a half years is a monumental achievement for everyone involved.

We want to give HUGE thanks to Gary and Derek for asking tough questions, setting high expectations, and, just as importantly, for having the flexibility to roll with the inevitable changes once the dirt started flying.

We need to acknowledge the in-house trail crew led by Ethan that will be responsible for continuing to maintain the park and who also put in many backbreaking hours in the lead -up to the soft opening in support of the Gravity Logic crews. Their input (both creative and productive) into the trails injected (and will continue to develop) a local flavor that is every bit as important as a solid trail foundation.

Rock Solid built an amazing chip-sealed Green trail that will likely be many people’s first experience in lift-access riding.

None of this would have been possible without the big picture vision and support of the fine folks at The Runway group and, in particular, Tom, Scott, Mike, and Ethan.

Lastly, we need to mention the GL crew, many of whom have spent the last 12-16 months living, eating, and breathing NWA to build the best possible bike park they could. This couldn’t have been done without the hard work, skill, and vision of Tom, Nat, Ian, Elliot, Kyle, Hadan, Desmond, , Aaron, Alex, and Grant.

Dozens of other people behind the scenes also contributed their talents, helping to make the Oz Bike Park what it is today and shaping it for the future.

Lastly, thanks to all the riders who showed up for the soft-opening and took advantage of lap after lap after lap and who shared the stoke. We’ve seen videos of Green riders on a chairlift for the first time, of Intermediate riders sessioning Kilowatt, and of Advanced, Expert, and Pro riders hitting features in ways we hadn’t even imagined. We’re looking forward to watching the evolution of the NWA riding scene.

Thanks for inviting us to be a part of it.

Plunge riders: Head‘s up that GL has started work on the lower Plunge. We’ve heard lots of good things about our work on the upper Plunge (thank you!!) and, of course, we also heard some grumbling about the changes (must mean we’re doing something right!). Be assured (or be upset) that work on Lower will be done with the same spirit as Upper. That being said, we are using a machine for the first 150 meters to fix a section that has bugged me for 3 decades. It will be wide-ish and ugly until we get rain (hopefully we get rain) at which point we will narrow it back down to singletrack and reveg/remoss the disturbed areas. The rest of the lower plunge work will be done entirely by hand. Watch for crews and soft spots on the trail over the coming months and thanks for all the positive feedback so far.

Meanwhile, at the , we’re making sure every foot of vertical counts. Our incredible crew have been working hard for over a year to make Arkansa’s first lift-access bike park the best it can be. Can’t wait until everyone gets a chance to ride it!
