The City of Wetaskiwin’s social media channels and online engagement platforms are monitored during the regular business hours of 8: 30 a.m. from Monday through Friday

, excluding statutory holidays. The Communications team strives to respond to messages received through social media within two business days. We believe our social media and online engagement spaces are important for communicating and engaging with the community, and we will do our very best to respond to relevant and legitimate questions and comments in a consistent and timely manner. We must, however, also ensure our online spaces are truthful, factual, respectful, fair, open, and safe for all. With this in mind, we ask that you treat each other and us with respect when commenting and engaging in our social media spaces. Comments of the following nature may be removed at the discretion of the City:

— Abusive behaviour, including comments (whether text, emoji, or media) which are hateful, profane, discriminatory, inappropriate or offensive, promote violence or illegal activity, or are intended to threaten, harass or personally attack someone, including but not limited to City personnel, elected officials, or members of the public.

— Misinformation, including non-factual information shared as truth. Misinformation can be dangerous when misinterpreted as fact in serious scenarios, such as those relating to public health and safety, or democratic processes.

— Spam, including comments or messages which are designed to direct peoples’ attention to something off-topic or irrelevant to the topic at hand; spam messages are often repetitive, often promote a commercial product, service or entity, and often redirect people to other websites or locations. Spam links are often considered potentially dangerous. The City of Wetaskiwin maintains sole discretion to determine which content is inappropriate or may be removed. Wherever possible, the City will notify users if their comment is removed and invite them to reframe and repost in an appropriate manner. Repeat or extreme violations of these Terms of Use may result in removal of comment(s) and/or limited or blocked access to City social media and/or online engagement platforms. Those who have been blocked from the City’s engagement platforms will still have access to view the City’s website to access desired information.

HERITAGE FESTIVAL SOUTH OF EDMONTON, JUNE 19-21! 🎉 Plan to drive out to the City of Wetaskiwin for their third annual Wetaskiwin Multicultural Heritage Festival taking place Friday through Sunday June 19-21! 🥳 The city is located just an hour drive south of Edmonton (or 30 mins from the airport) making it a perfect day trip location.

10 cultures will be presented through diverse stage performances, food, and craft vendors, plus enjoy a summer midway at this heritage festival!

I got the sweetest performance preview outside Wetaskiwin City Hall with members of the Wetaskiwin Filipino Community Foundation-Canada, who shared a "Salakot" (hat) Philippines Folk Dance. 🎶 (I'll share a video in the comments!)

I also got to meet Marlon Pinaso, the main organizer behind the heritage festival, who has done so much for the community! Marlon arrived in Canada back in 2009 as a temporary foreign worker, who was granted permanent residency and later brought his family over to live in the city in 2015. He founded the Wetaskiwin Multicultural Heritage Festival in 2023 to help bring community together while raising funds to support Wetaskiwin Literacy & Wellness Services. What a beautiful story of the impact that people have on their communities.

While you're in the area for Heritage Festival, plan to visit other BIG attractions in this small city, like the Reynolds-Alberta Museum or Edmonton Int'l Raceway, restaurants, Main Street, and more!

I'll be sharing more posts from my recent day trip / work trip to Wetaskiwin giving you ideas to help plan your itinerary - plus an upcoming Travel Guide.
