Alberta Wildfire requires fire permits for all burning in the Forest Protection Area starting March 1.

Westlock County also requires a fire permit for burning in our County.
You can apply for a fire permit here https://westlockcounty.com/fire-permit-application

Please also ensure, as it is your responsibility, that if you burned over the winter, that you go back and check your winter burns regularly in the spring when the snow cover is gone. Holdovers can unexpectedly flare up on hot days, and can cause a wildfire.

Starting March 1, fire permits will be required for all burning in the Forest Protection Area, excluding campfires. Fire permits can be requested online, in person, or over the phone. Check on your winter burning projects to ensure they are fully extinguished. Ongoing burn projects will require a fire permit as of March 1. https://www.alberta.ca/get-a-fire-permit

Reminder with the cold temperatures, that if it is too cold for you, it is too cold for your pets to stay outside. 🐕

If your pet is an outside pet, ensure there is adequate shelter provided for them to use if needed. In the cold temperature, their water will freeze, changing out their water regularly will make sure they have access to water.

With the holidays are around the corner, here are some light safety tips to keep you and your family safe.

When using light sets, make sure to use the proper lights for the environment. Indoor lights should not be used outside; some outside lights may burn too hot to be used indoors.
Inspect your lights before you use them, to ensure any damaged bulbs are replace. If the wire is exposed, broken or frayed, discard it.
Do not use electric light strings on metallic trees. A faulty system could energize the tree and shock or electrocute someone who comes in contact with it.
