Spring Caucus season has wrapped, and we are deeply grateful.

Thank you to the Chiefs and leaders — in the North, Interior, Vancouver Coastal, Fraser Salish, and Vancouver Island — to guide the future of First Nations health governance in BC.

Your direction is the foundation of everything we do. Every conversation, every resolution, every piece of feedback shapes the path forward to Gathering Wisdom XIV and beyond.

Before the FNHA and before the tripartite agreements — there was a vision.

This video tells the story of how First Nations leaders in BC built something that didn't exist before — a community-driven, nation-based health governance system rooted in culture, healing and self-determination. It traces the journey from the 2007 Transformative Change Accord to where we are today, and why the work of the FNHC, FNHA and FNHDA continues to matter.

204 communities. 34 language groups. One clear message: First Nations must be at the table when health laws are made.

This video takes a hard look at what meaningful engagement actually requires — not just consultation, but accountability, revision and follow-through. It also speaks directly to the urgent need for zero tolerance for racism in the health system and equal access to care no matter where First Nations people live.

Why are we looking at evolving the First Nations Health Governance Structure?

Through ongoing engagement, the First Nations Health Council (FNHC) is creating space to listen, learn and gather input from First Nations across BC.

These conversations will help determine whether the current health governance structure needs to evolve to better meet the changing healthcare landscap, and what those changes could look like. This work is also informed by the FNHC Evaluation report and what we’re hearing directly from communities.

At its core, this is about making sure the health system continues to reflect and respond to the needs and priorities of First Nations.

The FNHC's mandate is evolving, and it starts with you.

This new video explores how First Nations leadership is shaping what comes next for health governance in BC. From accountability to Chiefs and leaders, to the role of ceremony and cultural teachings in wellness, to the realities facing rural, remote and urban communities — it's all part of the conversation.

As we move toward Gathering Wisdom XIV and a new Terms of Reference, this is an important moment to understand what transformation really means.

Dr. Nel Wieman, FNHA Chief Medical Officer, has been named a recipient of the inaugural Dr. Barry Lavallee Indigenous Health Advocacy Award by the Indigenous Physicians Association of Canada. This recognition reflects a deep commitment to Indigenous health advocacy that underpins the work of the FNHA and its pillar parters at the FNHA and FNHDA.

Today is Bear Witness Day, a day to honour the life of Jordan River Anderson and recommit to the full implementation of Jordan's Principle.

Jordan was a First Nations child from Norway House Cree Nation who spent years in hospital while governments argued over who should pay for his home care. He never made it home. Jordan's Principle was created so no child would face that barrier again.

It guarantees First Nations children equitable access to the government services they need, when they need them.

Today, we bear witness to how far we still have to go. We call for full implementation of Jordan's Principle and an end to service disparities that continue to affect First Nations children across BC and Canada.

Today is Red Dress Day, the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2-Spirit People.

We honour those we have lost. We stand with the families still searching for answers. We recommit to a future where every Indigenous woman, girl and 2-Spirit person is safe, seen and celebrated.

The health and safety of our people is inseparable from justice. FNHC remains committed to health system transformation that centres the full dignity and safety of all BC First Nations.
