It is with heavy hearts that we extend our deepest condolences to the members of the Bridgetown Volunteer Fire Department, the family, friends, and loved ones affected by the tragic line of duty death of one of their own.

The fire service is a brotherhood and sisterhood built on courage, sacrifice, and service to others. Today, we stand with Bridgetown in mourning and gratitude for a life dedicated to protecting the community.

Please keep all those impacted in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Today is International Firefighters’ Day, and while it may feel close on the heels of First Responders Day, it’s worth taking a moment to recognize something important.

Every firefighter here is a volunteer.

Behind every call is someone who just left their full-time job, stepped away from supper with their family, or got out of bed in the middle of the night. They show up carrying not just gear, but the skills and experiences from their everyday lives. Skills that make our department stronger, more capable, and deeply connected to the people we serve.

Because in a small community, it’s rarely “just a call.”
It’s your neighbour. Your coworker. Your friend.

There are moments of heartbreak and moments of relief. There are calls that stay with you long after the trucks are back in the bay. And behind it all are countless hours of training - done on evenings and weekends, on personal time, so that when the tone drops, we are ready to give our very best.

This isn’t just about courage in an emergency. It’s about commitment in the quiet moments no one sees.

Today, we don’t just say thank you we acknowledge the sacrifice, the dedication, and the reality of what it means to serve as a volunteer firefighter.

To our members, and to volunteer firefighters everywhere: your community is stronger because of you.

They show up on our worst days, giving their best, without hesitation.

Today on First Responders Day, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank the dedicated volunteers of the West Bay Road and District Volunteer Fire Department. Your commitment, sacrifice, and willingness to answer the call, day or night, do not go unnoticed. Our community is safer because of each of you.

We also want to acknowledge and express our gratitude to our first responder partners. To the paramedics, RCMP, dispatchers, and our mutual aid partners thank you for your professionalism, teamwork, and continued support. Working alongside you makes even the most challenging situations manageable, and we are stronger together because of it.

Today, and every day, we are proud to stand with all of you in service to our communities. 🚒

Last night, the West Bay Road and District Volunteer Fire Department had the opportunity to assist the Valley Mills Fire Department on a structure fire.

Through our joint efforts and strong teamwork, the fire was extinguished safely.

We are proud to stand alongside our neighboring department and will continue to strengthen this collaboration in the future.
