COUNCIL MEETING | Council meets tomorrow night, June 16, and here’s a quick look at what’s on the agenda:
Presentations:
🔹 Mayor Campion will present plaques recognizing Niagara Regional Police Service officers for their bravery during the December 19, 2025, incident at 114 Second Street.
🔹 Kevin Carver, President and CEO, and Tim Clutterbuck, Chair of Holding Corp., Welland Hydro-Electric Holding Corporation, will present the corporation’s annual report and provide an update on governance, financial performance, reliability, and capital investments.
Staff reports include:
🔹 A by-law that would delegate limited authority to the CAO and CFO during a potential lame duck period following the 2026 municipal election.
🔹 A grant application seeking funding to support a tree planting initiative along the Welland Canal corridor.
🔹 A zoning amendment to permit a proposed seven-storey residential building with 217 units at 694 and 698 Niagara Street.
🔹 An application to participate in Ontario’s Development Charge Reduction Program to help support housing-related infrastructure projects.
🔹 A response to a Heritage Advisory Committee recommendation regarding a property tax rebate program for designated heritage properties.
🔹 A tender award for the 2026 rural roads surface treatment program.
🔹 Updates to traffic and parking regulations, including parking prohibitions and loading zones.
🔹 A revised Traffic Calming Policy that would establish a consistent, data-driven approach to addressing speeding concerns on residential streets.
🔹 An authorized purchase update outlining recently awarded capital project procurements.
