Through education and support, Strive Niagara empowers young families. There is a teacher and other students always willing to help with your courses.

Strive Niagara, formerly Adolescent’s Family Support Services of Niagara (AFSSN), is a non-profit, social service organization dedicated to assisting the needy by fostering the independence of young families pursuing an education through the provision of quality child care. Strive is geared towards supporting young mothers and their families as they work toward graduating from high school. We work on our courses at our own pace as well as in a group on a course we want or need towards attaining our secondary school diplomas. Each centre has a wonderful asset...a Community Worker, she is there to support you five days a week...no matter what the situation. She will facilitate programs and workshops in parenting, life skills, employment and post secondary preparation and a wide variety of programs that help us to reach our future goals. The daycare that is provided for our children is second to none. The staff is supportive and always there with a helping hand for you and your child. The atmosphere throughout the building is one of the greatest parts of this program. You'll never have to worry about being judged or looked down upon when you are in the centre. The supports we acquire while at school help us gain confidence in ourselves and our skills as mothers. They also give us the tools needed to get a good job. We also acquire a "family support" network that many of us would never have known if we hadn't of come.

Yesterday, our centres were filled with extra love, smiles, thoughtful gifts, and special celebrations as we honoured our incredible Early Childhood Educators and Child Care Workers for ECE and Child Care Worker Day!

From heartfelt surprises to sweet gestures of appreciation, each celebration was a reminder of just how much these special people mean to our Strive Niagara family.

Every day, our educators make a lasting difference in the lives of children and families through their patience, compassion, creativity, and unwavering dedication. They create safe, nurturing spaces where children can learn, grow, feel loved, and thrive.

To our amazing team, thank you for the love you pour into your work, the little lives you shape, and the big difference you make every single day. You are appreciated more than words can say, and we are so grateful to celebrate YOU!

Thank you for the patience, compassion, creativity, and heart you bring to your work. From the little hugs and big milestones to the countless everyday moments, you help children feel safe, loved, and ready to learn.

Another wonderful intergenerational visit from Heidehof residents with our kiddos at the Sven H. Dohnberg Child Care Centre! This time, we welcomed more residents than ever, and it was a visit full of smiles, laughter, and a few happy tears.

When the residents received the artwork the children had made for them, some were so touched they got a little teary-eyed. What a beautiful reminder that the smallest gestures can mean so much!

And the best part? The kids couldn’t wait to tell everyone all about their visit with their “Grandmas and Grandpas”!

These special moments are what intergenerational programming is all about — building connections, sharing joy, and creating memories across generations.

Little Firefighters in the Making!

Talk about an exciting day at the centre! Our little learners had a special visit from our local fire department, and WOW, did they have a blast!

From climbing aboard the fire truck and holding the fire hoses to checking out the incredible Jaws of Life, there was so much to see, explore and learn!

A HUGE thank-you to our local firefighters for taking the time to visit, answer curious little questions, and teach our children about fire safety in such a fun and hands-on way.

Who knows… we might have a few future firefighters in the making!

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Strive!

As we head into the Thanksgiving weekend, we’re feeling especially grateful for the wonderful families who make our childcare centres such special places to be.

This weekend, we hope your families find time to slow down, share a few laughs, enjoy some delicious food, and make beautiful memories together. Whether your Thanksgiving is filled with family gatherings, cozy moments at home, or little adventures outdoors, we hope it’s full of love and gratitude.

A friendly reminder: Our offices will be closed on Monday, October 12, so our staff can enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with their own families and loved ones.

Veggie Power on the Menu!

At Strive, we believe in introducing our little ones to a variety of delicious, nutritious foods — including at least one vegetarian lunch every week!

This week’s tasty creation? Honey Garlic Tofu Stir-Fry! Packed with colourful veggies, flavourful tofu, and a delicious honey garlic sauce, it was a fun way to show our kiddos that vegetarian meals can be healthy, satisfying, and oh-so-yummy!

There’s something truly special about seeing little ones and older adults share a moment of connection.

Our Grimsby Earlyon Child and Family Centre recently had the joy of visiting the Grimsby Livingston Activity Centre. a local seniors’ residence, as part of their intergenerational programming.

From smiles and stories to laughter and shared activities, it was a wonderful opportunity for our children and seniors to learn from one another and build meaningful connections.

Intergenerational experiences remind us that connection has no age limit. They create opportunities for children to develop empathy, curiosity and respect, while seniors can share their stories, wisdom and experiences with a new generation.

A simple visit can create memories that last a lifetime. Their next visit is October 28!

Today, our child care centres are taking time to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and to honour the children and families who have been impacted by the residential school system.

Across our centres, educators are creating age-appropriate opportunities for children to learn about Indigenous cultures, stories, traditions, and the importance of kindness, respect, and belonging. We are also taking time to reflect on the ongoing journey of reconciliation and our responsibility to continue learning.

We wear orange to remember the children who were taken from their families and communities, and to remind ourselves that Every Child Matters.

At Strive, we believe that meaningful learning and understanding can begin at any age. Through conversations, stories, reflection, and connection, we can help nurture a future built on respect, inclusion, and reconciliation.
