What’s in your fall hiking pack? πŸŽ’πŸ‚

As the days get shorter, a flashlight or headlamp is one small piece of gear that can make a BIG difference.

If you’re heading out later in the day, plan your route, keep an eye on the time, and give yourself plenty of daylight to finish your hike. πŸŒ™πŸ₯Ύ

Good adventures start with good preparation!

We're feeling pretty grateful for warm campfires, colourful leaves, and starry nights. πŸπŸ‚

What have you loved about being outside lately? πŸ‘‡

10/09/2026

We love seeing you enjoy the trails with your good dogs! πŸ•πŸ‚

While you're out exploring, please keep them on a leash unless you're visiting an off-leash trail, beach, or exercise area.

Dogs (and humans!) can accidentally disturb sensitive habitats and wildlife when they wander off trail.

Thanks for helping protect parks. ❀️

The Friends of Lake Superior Park have acquired three Seestar smart telescopes for the park. This weekend the telescopes will be on display, and you'll have the opportunity to connect to and learn how to operate them right from your phone! The telescopes pair with the Seestar App to capture deep sky objects such as galaxies, star clusters and nebulae. Save the images you take with the telescope straight to your phone to share with friends and family later!

Please install the Seestar App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store before the event. Consider walking instead of driving to this event to minimize light pollution from car headlights. Avoid using flashlights or utilize red light near the observing area to preserve the group's night vision.

Session will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather or cloud cover.

It's get outside-o'clock! πŸ•°οΈπŸ‘ˆ

Trade the doom scroll for some time outdoors.

Try planning a walk with friends or just sitting outside and observing the sights and sounds of nature.

Just 20 minutes/day in nature can make a big difference to our health and well-being. 🧑

ICYMI: Fall colours are peaking at LSPP! 🍁 πŸ‚

Looking for breathtaking elevated vistas to admire Lake Superior's autumn splendor? These are some of our favourite hiking trails to recommend to anyone up for a challenging hike with rewarding views:

⛰️ AWAUSEE TRAIL
This is a demanding 10 km loop, which typically takes 4 to 6 hours to complete. The trail climbs 200 metres above the Agawa River Valley to lookouts over rolling hills of colourful, maple-rich forest and the Lake Superior coastline. After following the top of the ridge, the trail descends back down towards the valley, crossing several beautiful rocky mountain streams. The trail ends with a leisurely segment along an old logging road lined with fallen leaves and diverse fungi.

Don’t feel like hiking all 10 km? The steep but short hike to the first lookout and back offers a spectacular view that only takes ~45 minutes.

⛰️ PEAT MOUNTAIN TRAIL
There is no better season than autumn to enjoy this demanding 11km hike which takes 3-5 hours to complete. Starting at the Rabbit Blanket Lake Campground, this trail climbs 150 metres through vibrant fall foliage to one of the highest points in the park. Along the route are a variety of lookouts, including views over the South Old Woman River, panoramic vistas of hills and valleys carved by glaciers, and several inland lakes.

Fall colours are currently peaking at LSPP in a dazzling show of blazing reds, yellows, and oranges! β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›

With a wide variety of trails ranging in difficulty and length, Lake Superior has a autumn hike for everyone!

Looking for some easy hikes with great fall colours? Here are some of our favourites:

πŸ‚ Crescent Lake Trail (3.5 km; 1-2 hours; loop):
This trail follows an old campground road lined with colourful maples, then loops past several calm inland lakes through a forest studded with ancient Yellow Birch trees. You'll love the picture-perfect colourful hills reflecting off the water along this trail!

πŸ‚ Trapper’s Trail (1.4 km; 45 min – 1.5 hours; loop):
This scenic wetland trail follows the shoreline of Rustle Lake, with two viewing platforms and a floating boardwalk. Not only does this trail offer stunning fall colours, it also provides great wildlife viewing opportunities. Be sure to keep a lookout for signs of animal activity, like s**t and tracks in the mud!

Please note: Parking lots for these trails are small and won’t accommodate larger RVs and trailers.

Looking for some more challenging hikes? Stay tuned for some more fall trail recommendations!
