We serve the RM of Woodlands, Towns of Warren, Woodlands, Marquette & Lake Francis, and are a member of the South Interlake Mutual Aid District.

Good Morning Everyone,

We just wanted to take a minute and talk about an fairly unknown hazard in our area: Poplar Fluff.

Similar to dryer lint, poplar fluff is extremely flammable as you can see in the video.

This weekend our department responded to two separate fires where a single spark ignited some fluff causing a multi hour wildfire.

Please ensure that when you’re having a fire or working with tools that can create a spark (I.e chain saw) that you:
- pay attention to your surroundings
- have a water source on hand
- dial 911 early

Good Morning Everyone,

Our crews were out and about at five separate incidents yesterday and this morning between 7 PM and 3 AM.

Some of these events were the result of or made worse by the extreme winds that were experiencing.

We’d like to remind everyone that it is unsafe to burn in the current conditions and that the things like the simple act of throwing your cigarette butt out the window of your car while you’re driving, can have extreme consequences.

Please use safe practises like throwing your cigarette butts in approved containers, refraining from burning, including the garbage in your burning barrel and reporting any emergencies as soon as you see them.

Last Thursday we had the best time conducting a controlled burn in our RM. The team spent some time familiarizing by themselves with our wildfire equipment and running up all of our pumps.

Any guesses what one of our most effective tools is when fighting a grass fire?

It’s not water, but rakes and leaf blower.

Good Morning Everyone!

Last night we conducted some wildland fire fighting practice and it was a great opportunity to show you the importance of applying Fire Smart techniques to your property.

Our Deputy Chief has a quick 30 second explanation for you!

Long grass provides fire with a lot of fuel and allows a fire to burn hot and high creating a large hazard.

Short grass limits the amount of fuel for a fire and prevents it from getting out of control.

Consider reducing the fuel load around any important structures and infrastructure on your property to prevent excessive damage in the event of a fire.

Tonight the Woodlands Fire Department will be doing a controlled burn at the corner of 82N and 1W to practice our woodland skills.

If you see us out tonight don't sweat - this is one of the few nights a year we START the fire!

This weekend some of our members attended the Wildland Firefighting course with our friends at St. Laurent Fire Department.

The Wildland course teaches members about how to properly fight fires in the prairie - something we specialize in here at Woodlands 😉
