What a weekend! ERFM had the pleasure of hosting 2 Surface Problems at the 56th Annual Saskatchewan Minning Associations Emergency Response Mine Rescue Skills Competition. 8 teams from across this beautiful province competed in a head to head competition showcasing their skills in various problems. These teams are what keep our mines safe, essentially a Volunteer Fire Department situated right on their respective sites, and trust me when I say "they did not disappoint". The teamwork, networking, learnings, colaboration and camaraderie, are by far some of the best parts of this competition. Hats off to all the teams and individuals that participated, you crushed it! May has flown by and our teams have clocked over 10,000 kms training, consulting and ERT Response. Supporting numerous mine, industrial and fire deparments across Saskatchewan and Manitobia, from rope rescue, hazmat, confined space rescue, water flow dynamics, equipment familiarization, water rescue, first aid, mine competition prep, tactical and forced entry....the list goes on. We couldn't do this without our amazing instructors and obviously the teams and departments across the province that trust ERFM and their teams. CMC is issuing a Product Safety & Inspection for the CAPTO™.

Through our internal inspection processes, CMC has found certain instances where the thread locker that secures the CAPTO cam set screw may not have fully cured. This potentially affects CAPTO 11 MM Gray (Part # 336011) and CAPTO 13 MM Red (Part # 336013) models from serial number 23191-001 through 26085-034. If the set screw becomes fully unthreaded, the cam spring may fall out, causing the cam to not function as intended. There have been no reports of any set screws coming loose in the field, but out of an abundance of caution we request that customers inspect for the presence and position of the set screw to ensure that it is installed properly. We have corrected this issue for current and future CAPTO production.

The same thread locker is also used as a secondary method to secure the pulley fl**ge. While we do not expect any issues, CMC still advises that customers also inspect the pulley fl**ge while inspecting the set screw position.

If you have a CAPTO, please immediately inspect your device using the inspection steps included in the Inspection & Safety Notice.

I remember doing ICS, staging and traffic with model cars or small army soldiers as I made my way though various organizations . Table top discussions, planning and tactics play a critical role in how we execute within our respective fields before we go hands on. So we have decided to take it a step further with our instructors and teams as we start implementing various 3D models. Not only does it save our instructors the embarrassment of their art work, but lays out a clear picture of various systems and tactics to our teams and students. Whether we are teaching a course, answering a question or planning for a potential rescue, the table top conversation is a must before we go hands on. What are some of the ways you teach your classes or teams?

Our instructors and rescue teams have been busy these past 2 weeks. 2600KM traveled between our teams, High Angle , Heavy Equipment Patient Evacs, First Responder, Medical Recerts, VX and our rescue teams are out for continual education and standing by for a busy, rescue, fire and ems season. Lots on the horizon and we cannot wait to share our teams adventures this year!
