Wainfleet Fire & Emergency Services wants to help educate people about fire safety. Public Education is the Fire Services first line of defense.

The second line of defense is prevention. That is your job. Please check for any fire hazards in your home Wainfleet Fire and Emergency Services provides fire protection for the Township of Wainfleet. The fire services utilizes the three lines of defence to keep the community safe from the dangers of fire. Starting with Public Education, the first line of defence then Prevention and lastly Suppres

sion. The department is comprised of a full-time Fire Chief a part-time Fire Prevention Officer and around 45 Volunteer Firefighters. The department participates in numerous events throughout the year as well as visits different facilities in the community and invites the public for station tours in order to educate the community on fire safety practises.

There will be an Alert Ready system test today!

Ontario was scheduled to participate in the testing of the Alert Ready emergency alerting system on May 6, 2026 at 12:55 p.m. EDT. The date and time of the test would have coincided with the funeral proceedings for OPP Sergeant Brandon Malcolm. Out of respect to Sergeant Malcolm, his family and friends, the Ministry will postpone the Alert Ready testing to May 7, 2026 at 1:55 p.m. EDT.

🔥 Open Air Burning Reminder – Wainfleet Fire and Emergency Services 🔥

As the weather improves and more residents begin spring cleanup, we would like to remind everyone that open air burning within Wainfleet requires a burn permit and must be done safely in accordance with municipal regulations.

The only exception is a recreational fire, which does not require a permit, provided it burns between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

Before burning:
• Ensure you have a valid burn permit if required
• Never leave a fire unattended
• Keep a water source or extinguishing equipment nearby
• Avoid burning during windy conditions
• Burn only clean, dry materials, never household waste, plastics, or treated wood

Please also be considerate of your neighbours, as smoke can create discomfort and visibility concerns.

If conditions are unsafe, postpone your burn until weather improves.

Safe burning helps prevent unnecessary fire department responses and keeps our community safe.

Big news for Wainfleet residents: As of 5AM, our community is now connected to Next Generation 911 (NG911) — a major upgrade to the emergency communications system that helps first responders locate and assist people in need faster and more accurately.

Through our fire dispatch partner, St. Catharines Fire Services, Wainfleet residents now benefit from a modernized emergency communications system designed to improve the speed, accuracy, reliability, and security of 911 calls.

📞 What does this mean for you?
While the technology behind the system has been upgraded, nothing changes for residents. In an emergency, simply dial 911 as you always have.

The new NG911 system improves how emergency call centres receive and process information by:
• Providing more accurate caller location information
• Increasing system reliability and cybersecurity
• Improving backup capabilities if system issues occur
• Supporting future features such as Real-Time Text and live emergency video

This upgrade was made possible through our partnership with St. Catharines Fire Services, which provides fire dispatch services to 36 municipalities across Ontario, including Wainfleet. The Province of Ontario, through the Ministry of the Solicitor General, provided $4,016,982 to support this transition so there is no impact to the local municipal budget.

Today we celebrate families across our community but today we would especially like to thank the families who stand behind our firefighters and first responders.
When the pager sounds, it’s often families who put plans on hold so our members can answer the call. Their patience, understanding, and support make it possible for us to serve Wainfleet every day.
