Labour Day weekend is a great time to enjoy the last long weekend of summer with family and friends. Before you head out, take a few minutes to keep safety in mind!

πŸ”₯ Campfires & Fire Safety
β€’ Check local fire restrictions before lighting a fire.
β€’ Keep campfires small and contained.
β€’ Never leave a fire unattended.
β€’ Always have water nearby and make sure your fire is completely extinguished before leaving.

πŸš— Road Safety
β€’ Slow down and watch for increased traffic.
β€’ Never drive impaired β€” plan a safe ride home.
β€’ Make sure everyone is buckled up.
β€’ Watch for pedestrians, cyclists, farm equipment and wildlife.

πŸ›Ά Water Safety
β€’ Wear a properly fitted life jacket when boating or participating in water activities.
β€’ Keep children within sight around water.
β€’ Never mix alcohol and water activities.
β€’ Check weather conditions before heading out.

🌾 Farm & Rural Road Safety
β€’ Be alert for slow-moving farm equipment on highways and grid roads.
β€’ Give large equipment plenty of space and only pass when it is safe.

β˜€οΈ And finally…
Stay hydrated, protect yourself from the sun, keep an eye on changing weather conditions and make sure your family knows what to do in an emergency.

From all of us at Vonda Fire & Rescue, have a safe and enjoyable Labour Day weekend! β€οΈπŸš’

Enjoy the weekend β€” and let’s keep our community safe!

09/01/2026

As teachers and students head back to the classroom tomorrow, Vonda Fire & Rescue would like to remind everyone to slow down and stay alert. With more children walking, biking and riding buses throughout our community, a few extra seconds of caution can make all the difference.

🚍 Watch for school buses β€” always stop when the red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.

🚸 Slow down in school zones β€” follow posted speed limits and watch carefully for children crossing the street.

πŸ‘€ Expect the unexpected β€” children can be unpredictable, especially around buses, crosswalks and playgrounds.

πŸ“΅ Put distractions away β€” keep your eyes on the road and avoid using your phone while driving.

🚢 Parents and students: before crossing the street, look both ways before crossing and stay aware of your surroundings.

Let’s work together to make this school year a safe one for everyone. β€οΈπŸš’

Slow down. Stay alert. Watch for kids.

Vonda Fire & Rescue is reminding our community that an Air Quality Advisory is currently in effect for parts of Saskatchewan due to wildfire smoke.

Smoke can cause poor air quality and reduced visibility, and as smoke levels increase, so do the potential health risks.

🌫️ What you can do:
β€’ Limit time outdoors and consider reducing or rescheduling strenuous outdoor activities.
β€’ Keep windows and doors closed as much as possible.
β€’ Use the highest-quality air filter your ventilation system can handle.
β€’ Consider using a certified portable air cleaner that filters fine particles.
β€’ If you must be outside for extended periods, a properly fitted N95 or equivalent respirator can reduce exposure to fine particles.
β€’ Check on family, friends, neighbours and others who may be more vulnerable to wildfire smoke.
β€’ Continue to monitor current conditions and follow guidance from local authorities.

⚠️ Watch for symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches, coughing or wheezing. More serious symptoms can include chest pain or severe coughing. If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

πŸ“² For current Air Quality Health Index information and additional wildfire smoke guidance, visit AirHealth.ca or Canada.ca/wildfire-smoke.

Stay safe, Vonda. ❀️‍πŸ”₯

Vonda Fire & Rescue is reminding everyone that the Fire Danger Rating is expected to reach EXTREME by tomorrow.

Adding to the concern, wind gusts of approximately 50 km/h are expected. Strong winds can cause fires to spread rapidly and unpredictably, carry embers long distances, and make even a small fire difficult or impossible to control.

🚫 Please avoid unnecessary burning.
πŸ”₯ If you are having a fire, make sure it is permitted and take extra precautions.
🌬️ Never leave a fire unattended, especially in windy conditions.
πŸš’ If you see a fire getting out of control, call 911 immediately. Swift action can make all the difference.

A combination of extreme fire danger + strong winds can turn a small fire into a serious emergency very quickly.

Stay safe, everyone!

🌾 Harvest Season Safety β€” It Affects All of Us 🚜

Harvest season means more farm equipment on our roads, slower-moving vehicles, dusty conditions, and longer hours for those working in the fields. Even if you’re not a farmer, there are a few things everyone should keep in mind.

πŸš— Be patient around farm equipment β€” combines, tractors and other machinery can be wide, slow and difficult to maneuver. Give them plenty of space and wait for a safe opportunity to pass.

⚠️ Watch for turns β€” farm equipment may need to make wide turns or pull into approaches and fields unexpectedly.

πŸ’‘ Stay visible β€” be extra cautious around dawn, dusk and at night when equipment may be travelling between fields.

πŸ“΅ Put the phone down β€” distracted driving is especially dangerous when sharing the road with large agricultural equipment.

🌾 Expect changing conditions β€” dust, mud, debris and reduced visibility can make roads more hazardous during harvest.

πŸ”₯ Be fire aware β€” dry crops and vegetation can allow fires to spread quickly. If you see smoke or a fire near a field, take it seriously and report it.

Harvest season is a busy time for our entire community. A little patience and extra awareness can help keep everyone safe.

From Vonda Fire & Rescue β€” slow down, share the road, and get home safely. πŸš’
