Stephanie Cadieux has been appointed to the Order of British Columbia!

Stephanie Cadieux has dedicated more than two decades to advancing accessibility, inclusion, and equity for people with disabilities in B.C., across Canada, and internationally. Beginning her career with Spinal Cord Injury BC in the early 2000s, she developed peer support programs that empowered individuals to rebuild independence and community connections.

Elected as MLA for Surrey-Panorama in 2009, she served four terms and held several senior cabinet roles, where she championed policies to expand accessibility, strengthen social supports, and improve inclusive government practices.

In 2022, she became Canada’s first Chief Accessibility Officer, providing independent advice on implementing the Accessible Canada Act and driving systemic change across key sectors.

A respected national and international voice, Stephanie has helped advance Canada’s leadership in accessibility and inclusion, earning recognition for her collaborative, compassionate leadership and lasting impact on public policy and community well-being.

Jewel Eldstrom and Cherie Geauvreau have been awarded the B.C. Medal of Good Citizenship!

Jewel Eldstrom and Cherie Geauvreau of Salt Spring Island have supported marginalized community members through the Copper Kettle Community Partnership, a grassroots organization they founded and manage.

Through their various initiatives, they provide essential resources including food, firewood and community support to seniors, families, single parents and individuals experiencing housing insecurity. Their programs include grocery gift cards, daily food delivery, the collection and redistribution of donated food in partnership with an organic community garden.

They also helped establish an accessible laundromat offering the island’s only public showers and laundry facilities, ensuring those in need can maintain their dignity and get basic care. Known for their hands-on approach, on any given day, Jewel and Cherie can be found getting supplies, delivering services door-to-door, providing networking help with family-to-family mentoring and friendly check-ins on shut-ins.

Their ongoing efforts have improved the quality of life for many vulnerable residents on the island.

Jill Bodkin has been appointed to the Order of British Columbia!

Jill Bodkin is a trailblazing public servant, business leader, and entrepreneur. Beginning her public service career in Ottawa, at age 21, she helped implement the historic Auto Pact, and negotiated trade and infrastructure initiatives linking B.C. to global markets, including investments tied to Expo ’86, Canada Place, and SkyTrain.

Then, as B.C.’s first female deputy minister and founding chair of the BC Securities Commission, Jill strengthened public confidence in our financial sector. She later became an international partner at Ernst & Young, where she helped bring pension fund investment initiatives that strengthened economic partnerships between the West and Asia. Jill also helped establish free-market institutions in post-Soviet far-eastern Russia, and closer to home, chaired the Canada-BC joint environmental review that modernized the Castlegar pulp mill, improving environmental performance, helping clean the Columbia River, and protecting local livelihoods.

Jill built clean-technology companies such as Westport, and chaired the Vancouver Board of Trade. As corporate director, and backer, Jill supported policy research, public broadcasting, conservation, music, entrepreneurs, emerging artists, and women in recovery programs.

Brigida Crosbie has been awarded the B.C. Medal of Good Citizenship!
 
Brigida Crosbie of Chilliwack has spent more than 12 years supporting some of the community’s most vulnerable residents, including seniors, people experiencing homelessness, individuals living with disabilities and the ‘hidden hungry’ – those people who suffer quietly because they don’t want to burden anyone.

As the owner of Tydel Foods, she has transformed her business into a vital hub of care and connection, creating innovative programs to address food insecurity. For example, her monthly food initiative for low-income seniors supports more than 800 people, providing groceries, fresh produce and essential supplies, often at reduced cost or free of charge.

Brigida and her team serve without judgement and “put people over profit, always.” Brigida also ensures no one leaves her store hungry, distributing between 80 and 100 sandwiches and bottled water daily to those in need. Much of this work is funded personally and supported by community donations, reflecting her deep commitment to service.

Through compassion, generosity and leadership, she has created a welcoming space that brings people together while meeting essential needs.

We are overflowing with pride. 💙

Today, we're celebrating our co-founder, Marc Bains, who has been named a Member of the Order of British Columbia, the province's highest honour.

As a three-time cancer survivor and heart transplant recipient, Marc transformed his own journey into a lifelong commitment to improving the lives of others. Through HeartLife Foundation, he has helped drive tens of millions of dollars toward cardiac research, patient support, education, and advocacy, ensuring more people living with cardiovascular disease have access to the resources and care they deserve.

But beyond the milestones and recognition, those who know Marc know his greatest impact can't be measured in numbers. It's found in the thousands of conversations he's had with patients and families, the hope he's inspires, and the countless lives he's has helped change through compassion, advocacy, and unwavering determination.

This honour recognizes a lifetime of service, and we couldn't think of anyone more deserving.

Congratulations, Marc. Thank you for showing us what it means to turn lived experience into lasting change. We are so proud to stand beside you. ❤️

As a three-time cancer survivor and heart transplant recipient, Marc Bains has transformed personal adversity into public good as one of B.C.’s most impactful community leaders. As co-founder of the HeartLife Foundation, Marc has driven fundraising efforts that raised tens of millions of dollars for cardiac care.
 
His work has advanced vital research, expanded patient support, and extended educational outreach to major hospitals and rural clinics throughout B.C., ensuring equitable access to consistent care. Marc applies this successful advocacy blueprint to both cancer initiatives and other complex chronic conditions.
 
Globally, he has dedicated thousands of hours to helping families navigate serious illnesses, addressing deep-rooted health inequities, and championing culturally accessible care models. Ultimately, Marc leverages his unique lived experience to strengthen healthcare systems and inspire hope.

Archie Chantyman has been awarded the B.C. Medal of Good Citizenship!
 
Elder Archie Chantyman, a member of the Lhoosk’uz Dene Nation and second-generation residential school survivor from Quesnel, is recognized for his leadership in advancing healing and reconciliation across the Cariboo region.
 
Each year, he undertakes a “March with Arch,” a 700-kilometre walk from his home community to St. Joseph’s Mission in Williams Lake and back. This walk is an act of personal and communal healing, symbolizing resilience, remembrance and renewal. The journey honours those affected by the residential school system while affirming the strength of First Nations people in B.C.
 
Through this powerful initiative and his presentations at community events, Archie fosters dialogue, education and intergenerational understanding among Indigenous and non-Indigenous audiences. His work encourages reflection on shared history and supports meaningful reconciliation grounded in respect and action.
 
Marked by humility and a deep commitment to service, his efforts continue to inspire hope, strengthen community connections and promote healing for present and future generations.
