It is a unique adjunct programme that develops First Aid, leadership and professional skills as well as having a lot of fun. In the early 1990's Greater Victoria Region had a greatly successful Vocational Fire Venturing Company and also had a Vocational Police Venturing Company. With these running, there was discussions in the Region about having a Vocational Venturing Company with a Medical/First
Aid focus. Discussions were started in 1992 with the 11th Field Ambulance Reserve Unit (formally 11th Medical Reserve Unit) about being involved with this group partly because one of this unit was a current Scout Leader in Greater Victoria with 6th Cedar Hill Scouts. There was some interest however no fruition from these discussions initially. During a Regional Scout Camp hosted at Ruckle Park on Saltspring Island in April 1993 there was an unfortunate incident which resulted in this leader passing away long before his time. From this incident, the 11th Field Ambulance wanted to help continue in his legacy and agreed to a formal sponsorship of a Vocational Medical Venturing group in Greater Victoria Region. This Venturer Company stood up in Sept 1993 with 5 original members with great support from 11th Field Ambulance. For simplicity, the term βMedVentsβ usually is used to describe both the Venturer and Rover sections, as both sections work closely together and use a very similar curriculum. The 33rd GV MedVents specialize in providing volunteer first aid services at a variety of Scouting and community events on Vancouver Island and throughout BC. If you would like 33rd GV MedVents at your event please contact [email protected]. We also enjoy coming out to your Beaver, Cub & Scout meeting to help with first aid badge requirements, as well as running a first aid challenge or station at Scouting events. MedVents usually meet weekly, on Wednesday from 7:00-9:00pm.
