On Saturday, August 22, 2026, Government House will host the Back to School Picnic, in partnership with the Victoria Native Friendship Centre and Surrounded by Cedar Child and Family Services.

This annual event brings more than 1000 young students and their families to the grounds. The scale of the event means that access to the grounds of Government House will be limited throughout the day. Parking will be inaccessible for most of the day and the upper footpaths and fields will be busy. The House is not open to the general public.

There will be no public tours of Government House as the interior of the house will also be in use.

Unfortunately, due to a shifting and unpredictable weather forecast calling for rain, wind, and potential thunder and lightening, Music on the Lawn has been CANCELLED for Thursday, July 16, 2026, for the safety of the performers, their equipment, and our guests.

PUBLIC TOURS WILL GO AHEAD AS SCHEDULED. If you are booked on a public tour, we would be delighted to welcome you inside Government House for your scheduled tour.

Next week's concert featuring TIGHT HAIR DISCO will go on as scheduled, barring any additional wild weather!

Summer is the perfect time to visit Government House! Visit fragrant rose gardens, enjoy sweeping views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, explore the history of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor at the Costume Museum, and stop for lunch or a scone at Rudi's Tea Room. The summer schedule for public tours of Government House is in full swing! Public tours now run every Saturday* until September. Tours give a look into the residence of the Lieutenant Governor and the ceremonial home of all British Columbians, covering history, points of interest, and art and architecture.

Tours are free but space is limited, and visitors are advised to register in advance.

This week Music on the Lawn returns to the Government House! On Thursday, July 9, The Sutcliffes bring an evening of Beatles favourites to the Government House bandshell, with the show starting at 6:00 pm.

Arrive early for a free public tour of Government House, pack a picnic or grab dinner from the food trucks, and be sure to bring your dancing shoes.
