Can you tell why this mushroom is called the shaggy ink cap? 🍄‍🟫

Join CRD Regional Parks naturalists on Sunday, Nov. 1 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. for a family-friendly all ages 'Marvelous Mushrooms' guided walk at Witty's Lagoon. Meet at the Teaching Shelter off the Lagoon Trail. We'll look for mushrooms and learn all about why they're important in the forest, leaving the harvesting to the forest animals. 🐿️🐦‍⬛🐌

PSA: It's that time of year again! ❄️ ☃️

Water fountains along the Galloping Goose, Lochside, and E&N Rail Trail regional trails will be shut off at the end of this month as colder weather approaches.

The flush washrooms at Thetis Lake Main Beach will also be closed for the season in the coming weeks, however portable toilets will remain for visitor use over the winter.

The CRD is undertaking additional repairs to a regional water transmission main along the northbound Trans-Canada Highway in View Royal from October 26 to approximately October 31.

🚧 Traffic impacts: The right northbound lane will be closed between the Island Highway overpass and Six Mile Road overpass for the duration of the work.

💧 Water impacts: Reducing water use during peak demand periods in the morning and early evening helps maintain reliable service anytime work is being completed on the water system. This transmission main serves the Saanich Peninsula and a portion of Saanich. If you live or work in these areas, you can play an important role by running dishwashers and laundry machines in the early afternoon or overnight, taking shorter showers in the morning and turning off the tap while brushing your teeth.

Water quality is not expected to be affected.

This piece of dead wood is actually full of life! ✨👀🍄‍🟫

A fungus called 'carbon antlers' is growing under the surface, breaking the wood down and sending out black and white fruiting bodies that sometimes branch to look like deer antlers.

The CRD's flags are flying at half-mast in memory of those who lost their lives in the tragedy at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright.

We extend our sincere condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives, and to everyone affected by this tragedy. Our thoughts are with the Canadian Armed Forces community, the injured and those supporting the response and recovery efforts during this difficult time.
